Oh, I still remember when you tried to find a sub for that game! Or am I misremembering? The game that makes everyone a better person... you really had me going there for a second.
More people have been to Berlin than I have.

I feel like this situation - "Gosh, Mr. Cairo sure is doing well. I sure hope someone else does something about him soon!" seems to happen a lot.
The Bystander Effect may not be a real thing, but in these games it surely is. No one wants to be the first to move, because that's scary and will probably not help your (individual) chances of winning much. But the longer everyone waits, the stronger Florida gets. It's a massive game of chicken (or a prisoner's dilemma) - how late do you let things go before you finally decide it's up to you and no one else?

A blog about my adventures in Korea, and whatever else I feel like writing about.
Without being too long-winded it will happen almost every time when you play these blobby pangea maps with multiple neighbours by land. The moment you invade someone the other players will choose whether to dogpile you or the one you're attacking, and in both cases you lose. Either you get teamed up on or you will take the brunt of the damage from the defender's forces while the 2nd attacker gets all the benefits.
I really dislike these maps for that reason and I'm very happy that water and island maps are becoming more common as you can make more moves there. You don't get into a situation where you have to put all your attacking forces within reach of virtually every opponent city, because on island maps forces are more scattered due to increased mobility. This map being symmetric means that everyone is in the same boat and nothing will happen. It's very hard to build an advantage big enough to not leave yourself vulnerable. You could play these maps in 2009 because everyone was bad and reckless, but now it just becomes a boring turtlefest as less mistakes are made overall. Cornflakes played with gusto and was punished for it, although I question not getting engineering before stopping research. Just my humble opinion. |
