Jon Shafer's "At the Gates": a kickstarter game

Nerd Commando rips the game apart - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkmCIqVulkU

the tl;dr version - caravans are op: max trade posts and buy yourself to victory. reminds me of the civ5's vanilla diplo victory..
the removal of caravans will hinder or even criple player's development since resources can only be harvested from "resource tiles" that the player may lack.

P.S. funny how Nerd pronounces wheat as wet. lol
P.P.S. stone harvesting structures circumvent the depletion mechanic - resources can be harvested indefinitely  yikes

That's by design, you are meant to permanently settle eventually.

Yes, and I don't think it's a bad design decision in itself. I think the idea that you can at some point give the survival portion of the game the finger and go play big politics is pretty cool. The problem, of course, is that there's a great big nothing left once you do that.

Attila can't own any structures (wood or stone) ever, but can train horse archers. I really want to try that out when (if) the AI improves.

Another thing, in my last game, I was actually attacked by an AI, and it managed to pillage my settlement! It was not defended at all because I didn't expect it to do anything. I thought that'd be a game over, but you just lose some resources and the settlement can't do anything for a few turns. So you effectively cannot lose, but if a bunch of assholes knock out your village every few turns, there's not really anything left to do except quit the game. In my case, I just marched my warriors back and kicked them out. This happened on the second one of the pre-generated newbie maps, and it makes me wonder if I've been unfair: maybe the AI is coded to ramp up during your first few games? Of course, Jon Shafer has only himself to blame for not letting you skip them, because I'm not going to slog through more of that to find out.
