Heh, I feel like I just asked "hey Nero, how does that bluegrass song go?"
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out. darrelljs Wrote:Yeah. Its cute and all but as I said before its not really what this game was about. IMMO. Have any of the other teams complained that a cultural victory would be cheesy? Sounds like T1 think it's a perfectly legitimate pursuit, at least (although they think it's futile), and I haven't seen T3 complain about it either. I do agree that it would also be interesting to see the game resolved through a decisive modern war. (A space race would be less interesting to watch, IMO.)
If you know what I mean.
darrelljs Wrote:Yeah. Its cute and all but as I said before its not really what this game was about. IMMO. Yeah, see this is where I totally disagree. If it's a win condition and it's not banned- then it's as viable and 'right' as any other win condition. If you don't like it, vote to ban it beforehand. I know you got stung in 17, but that should have been a lesson to folk to be more vocal in the setting up phase. zakalwe Wrote:Have any of the other teams complained that a cultural victory would be cheesy? Sounds like T1 think it's a perfectly legitimate pursuit, at least (although they think it's futile), and I haven't seen T3 complain about it either. I really don't know how T1 will take this. Culture is a perfectly valid win condition which people have always talked about, but always shunned. Their only gripe may be that we are so quick to correct them on mechanics normally, but we let them roll with the bad data when it really mattered. However, as someone (apologies to whomever it was!) mentioned earlier in this thread, they 'know' that T2 are going for a victory attempt that mechanically won't work yet they never asked why the lurkers haven't corrected them. My prediction is that they are very gutted initially (as we all would be), but then take it on the chin and are graceful with it. Either way, it' a bundle of laughs to watch from the sidelines! ![]() darrelljs Wrote:Yeah. Its cute and all but as I said before its not really what this game was about. IMMO. I think in this instance the CV attempt is particularly "legit" because T2 planned it from T0. A CV in MP is hard, even with planning from the first off the second place team has a very real opportunity to stop them and if they win it will be by like half a turn. I also think the CV attempt has made the game a lot more interesting - there's no way this lurker thread would have anywhere near this many posts without it. The game would almost assuredly end in a T1 space race victory otherwise, anyway. If someone wants to run a variant with every win condition but Domination and Conquest enabled, I could see that being fun (though worth noting - that game would very probably just end in the typical concession) but I think this game has worked out to be pretty darned interesting just the way it is. I ate the crow before but I'll eat it again, kudos to Sullla and Speaker for an entertaining set-up. The CV attempt and, without being too disrespectful, Sunrise's civ have kept this very interesting! Disclaimer: I am not identifying why I think sunrise is struggling, through micro, skill, land quality, neighbours etc. However, it's clear fact that his civ is backwards. If you don't like it, vote to ban it beforehand. Difference between Religion and CV is that CV you can stop by invading. Reilgious victory it generally relies on random religion spread and gifting cities around to make it work/not work. That and it needs more than 1 person to vote for it to work which is akin to diplo victory without needing to meet pop requirements. |
