Sulla is hogging the good commerce land, Speaker is hogging the good hammer land, Sunrise gets the dregs.

Not only them for the novel setup, but also we should all give a hand to Plako for a truly awesome map. It's just defensive enough, without being too defensive.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out. Nicolae Carpathia Wrote:Sulla is hogging the good commerce land, Speaker is hogging the good hammer land, Sunrise gets the dregs. To an extent, that is probably true, but I would put that as a minor factor personally.
The reason sunrises civ sucks is two fold: specifically neutered to give Sullla more land, and fighting with AGG rome in an era where AGG rome could see iron from the off.

Maybe not quite as lopsided as with team 1, but that spot is just hard to expand from. And it actually worked out being a good strategy having so many of their cities in Sulla's India, since it lets them massively boost their overall economy with every golden age. It's kind of interesting that Team 1's Golden Land is the Fin/CE one, whereas Team 3's first among equals is the Gandhi/SE (hybrid) one.

That really just seems like a mistake by team 3. The fin civ belongs on the flood plains, no question. Having an Agg/Imp civ on the side worked out well for them though, letting WarriorKnight steal a lot of land away from Sunrise.
They put the EXP leader in the land with a bunch of forests.
That's not a bad idea. Still got shitloads of grasslands to cottage instead.
Ultimately makes most sense to me to give the most land to the Fin civ, since its the only trait that actually impacts tile yields. Phi can do its thing with a lot less land. I'm not positive, but it certainly looks to me like Dave got more land than StM which does feel like a mistake.

I'd be lying if I said my pbem17 experience didn't factory into my feelings on CV in this game, but my objection is more along the lines of "it doesn't belong" rather than "it's grade F Wisconsin cheddar". I just like my AW games determined on the battlefield. I practice what I preach too, we could have won a Tower victory in FFH by now, but chose not to pursue it. Anyway, your point is 100% correct; the players should have anticipated and banned this from the start if they were against it, and I doubt anyone will complain after its over. That does make a huge difference ![]() Darrell |
