I just like my AW games determined on the battlefield. I practice what I preach too, we could have won a Tower victory in FFH by now, but chose not to pursue it. Anyway, your point is 100% correct; the players should have anticipated and banned this from the start if they were against it, and I doubt anyone will complain after its over.
I think a space race victory is actually more problematic because you can effectively defend while you're doing it. With culture, the counter is actually to attack you!

Well it will be fun to watch how spulla reacts to being blockaded again. He might make a hammy speech. Khaaaann!!!
I wonder if spulla will post something silly when team 2 culture goes lead-gin-dairy because team 1 will get a pop-up and might still believe they are right.

But it's Always War, so no discussing that sort of thing. If we had known there was going to be this much naval combat, we'd have disallowed coastal blockading. It's much more fun to read about than it is to play.
I don't get why they can't just suggest it in the tech thread. It's not like they are completely on the receiving end.

Bingo. You can win a Religious victory by luck alone. Not so with Culture.

An excellent point. I was going to suggest that I didn't see why a Culture win was any less valuable than a Space win and this backs it up. There's still merit in a Space win because you have to get a tech lead, but it's a safe, lazy win. (One I choose when I can't be bothered warring in a game.) Culture generates a risk/reward play-off as Seven says.

Right. Space has no counter. Make a bunch of alliances if possible, run to the end of the tech tree, chop out a spaceship in a couple turns. Then you just give ground until it lands.
I've been in games where a player launched and 5 players invaded to stop him with every unit they could scrape up. He just moved his palace every turn.

Maybe we should start pre-emptively banning palace moves between starting the first spaceship part and the ship landing.

Okay so 228 defenders vs. 104 hitters on the first turn of attack and 109-X hitters on turn 2 of the attack, X being the number of hitters that died on turn 1. If we define Y as the number of hitters that die on turn 2 of the attack, we get:
213 - (2*X+Y) >= 228
2*X + Y < -15
In other words, its over unless team 2 does something stupid like attack out.

Speaking of something stupid, has somebody actually checked T2's math if they really have enough culture in the end? I'd die laughing if they survive the onslaught and then find out they lack a GA or 100 culture or so...

I don't think anyone here has checked the maths. Wish someone would though.
