I'm pausing the game until this gets sorted out.

Pitboss 18 IT and Tech Issues Thread

My non-steam copy still has direct-IP connection, just used it for PB19 (predictable, just confirming that non-steam copies still work).

I haven't launched the new version yet and can't play right now... surely there is some way to host through Steam? Or can nobody play MP now except PBEM and Lan? There's still online multiplayer, but they removed direct p2p connections. So pitboss isn't supported by steam any more. I guess we'll be needing a pause to get this sorted out? This also seems like a very justifiable situation to pirate the game.
FYI, I'll be away Friday + Saturday, OH will probably be able to play our turns, but I haven't managed to catch him yet. So just in case if game continues and you notice that we haven't played the turn timely
--> 1. try to poke OH 2. try to poke LP (instructions are in our thread)
I was trying all the different ports with base BTS, and forgot that PB20 was ToW. So hopefully its only a 18 issue that we can fix relatively easily?
I don't have a steam copy of Civ and haven't noticed any difference.

I have reloaded the game and adjusted the timer to 19 PB hours. As for the Steam issue, I am afraid I have no solution to offer except perhaps to "pirate" the game. If you already legally own a copy of the game on Steam, it could be argued that you are not pirating it, and that a base functionality of the game has been removed from your copy. But, I am not a lawyer..
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"
To be clear, I do not have a moral objection to pirating the game. I am worried though about putting my PC at risk. If someone has a copy they can share through dropbox or something by all means please PM me a link! I do not really know how a lot of this tech stuff works, sorry.
Can we get a show of hands from the people who only have the steam version of the game?
I have to run.
