Noble & I figured it out: we forgot about Pottery. Although I'm not sure why it would take the other FIN civ 10 turns to finish Pottery...

Turn 40
Scouting to the south now: ![]() I like that island more than the one to our northeast. Speaking of our northeast, should we keep our warrior up there? Just in case someone comes by we make contact that way. I don't think we need a MP in the capital for a while still - the planned settler at size 4 is going to be done on t46 and we don't hit size 6 at all in the plans. The only disadvantage is if a warrior comes up from our south and is hostile. Rego's GNP last turn: 24 again. That means another 16c and another 20 beakers into polytheism. I'm guessing he is at 50/132 as of the start of my turn. Unless he hooks up a gold mine of his own, I think we have this won.
So there is some chatter about growing to size 3 in the middle of that new worker build at NHL. Just some food for thought there... We are assuming we get polytheism for the religion, otherwise all this talk is moot as we won't pop our borders to get the cow & clam.
If we build the worker straight through at size 2... * worker finishes t47 with 0h overflow * hook up clams t47 and swap off the gold mine to grow to 3 end of turn * cows hooked up on t50 * grow to size 4 at eot52 If we grow to size 3 halfway through the worker... * borders at NHL pop eot44 * swap off worker t45 and hook up the clam, grow to 3 at end of turn * worker finishes t48 with 4h overflow * cows hooked up t50 still possible, but only if we waste a worker turn beelining to the cows * grow to 4 at eot52 So we gain 4h and 2c for growing, but lose 2 worker turns. Consider though: those two worker turns are on cottages that aren't planning to be worked or even finished until well past t55. So i'm not sure either ![]()
I thought of it as 1 lost worker turn, but it is basically 2 if we choose to send the other worker there, you're right. Need to think a bit more about it.
Anyway I don't think we should keep the warrior hanging around the north. Our northern neighbor may not realize that this is our starting blob, I'd rather not have him rush to settle the gold even more than he will normally. Contact can wait - if he settles there we'll see the borders in the fog.

I estimated the size of the island and it doesn't look like we can loop the island and get back to hook the clams before t47. The moves I'm guessing we'll use are: 33-21-44-74-79-96-9net. So I guess we'll definitely finish the worker first.
VERY IMPORTANT: Send the workboat SOUTHEAST next turn or else we will need one extra move back to the clam and will not get to net it until t48! rego's MFG graph is very high...looks like he's the rival top at 15. His gold is not hooked up so that's not it. Think he might be building Henge maybe? Although I don't see why he would want to compete with Ichabod at this point in the game.

Here's a screenshot of the sandbox just so we're clear on what I mean by losing a move if we don't move the work boat southeast next turn. The island's dimensions are at least this size, I am certain of this through fog gazing. Numbers in white are the end of turn positions for the work boat if we head southeast, numbers in red if we head west.

You should turn your grid on by the way, it helps fog gazing because you can see where exactly one tile ends. Oh and upon further inspection, there is a forest on the tile 41 of the furs, so that's definitely land.

Yeah, if we finish the worker out then we can always just turn around on t44. Not optimal, but a good failsafe to know about.
We should ask Seven or T-Hawk to quantify the value of a worker turn ![]()
We'd have to turn around on t43 (after t42). Given the scouting situation I'm definitely in favor of finishing the worker sooner.
