I think that comes from Fischer-Spassky 1972 match

I thought there were a lot of obvious Fischer inspirations / parallels for the character of Beth.

A lot of that stuff i took as dramatic flair. I was just impressed they used actual games and that the commenting about the games was somewhat relevant. Although I'm still trying to figure out which file Benny was adamant that Beth open up in her final game lol

Interesting, you are correct. The first version I had read years ago only mentioned the audience applauding, iirc. It's astonishing Spassky committed such a major psychological blunder. Google tells me in "Bobby Fischer goes to war it says: "Outside, even the grandmasters were whispering in hushed tones about the possibility that Spassky was a broken man".

Interesting, I'd like to see what she says in the interview.

Also would be funny if she responded saying she hadn't watched the show because she doesn't have Netflix.

Fun reaction thread, that was some impressive attention to detail in the analysis of the non-featured games.

Well Hikaru Nakamura was my neighbor until his streaming empire took off, now he's moved to a more affluent zip code. Classical chess may be the highest form, but Rapid and Blitz appeal to a broader audience...
