Nice... Another buildfest game... Isn't this game setup supposed to be all about war and agression? Wasn't the warlike nature of this game what was being thrown at Lord Parkin face on the planning thread?

To be fair, I think Spullla's main gripe with the PB4 map was that it was too large to be able to deal with a runaway before he... ran away. On this map, every team apparently borders every other team.
Additionally, I think a later start should in theory make it harder to run away with the game, since you have fewer turns to work with.
If you know what I mean.

Guess the way the map looks doesn't matter much when you are winning... I think you're missing the point that the best strategy often really is to play conservatively and slowly advance your own goals, rather than making risky moves just to entertain a restless audience. You have to remember that they're playing primarily for their own enjoyment, not for ours. And there's nothing wrong with that, even if it makes things more "boring" for the audience. You would most likely do the same if you were in the hotseat yourself.

No doubt about it. I fully agree and I think they should play however they want to. I just felt it was a bit ironic.
Maybe I sounded a bit too harsh with the "buildfest" comment. But I was really hoping to see a more war oriented game. In the end, the problem lies in the Civ game itself, being that going to war is very unlikely to bring more benefits then just peacefully expanding.

In a competitive game with multiple human players, that's usually somewhat true. Although war does start to give decent benefits once peaceful expansion room starts to run out. Especially with a technological, numerical, or strategic advantage. But yeah... fighting an opponent on an even keel when there's still vast amounts of land to settle is usually a fairly silly move (apart from in 1 vs 1).

What's your feeling about smaller map sizes for MP games, LP? You seem to have a lot of experience with MP, so you should have played a couple of games in smaller settings.
I was going to ask if you find them more fun, but that's too subjective to matter. Do they favor more war, according to your experience? What is the player more likely to win, the one who attacks quickly or the one who try to play defensively and later attack with technological superiority?

That's a function of the amount of players and the game type. This is a 4 team game so you can border each other team but not every other player. And size of the map doesn't really mean and awful lot - PB3 had a "small" huge map and you never bordered more than about 4 players at a time.

I'm pleased to see this game going along smoothly now!
