The primary advantage of Pitboss over PBEM is that it supports games with lots of civs very easily, which makes for a greater number of possible outcomes and less predictability - so let's not let it go to waste. The more the merrier, I say! 
I agree with everything said  . But I also understand those impatient to start having double-fun  . I think we are ready now to have the game forum opened and start discussions in our spoiler threads - I am trying to make that happen.

I don't mind waiting at all if there are still players out there thinking about joining. Sign-ups had slowed down / stopped in this thread so I thought we were talking about sitting on this for a couple months to get more teams.
I think 12 might be a bit much with full diplo. 8-10 teams sounds great, though.

Yeah, I also think the lower bound of what Lord Parkin proposed would be more manageable. Exactly as you said, 8-10 teams would be ideal, I think .
We are still advertising, dunno how it will go, but may get more players. In terms of waiting, I was not thinking months, just weeks. Anyways, I am still traveling around the world so we have wait at least a bit .

Hmm, that will be tough negotiations - I already came up with a name I love and that is different . Just waiting for his approval.
