Turn 187

Mackoti has a great artist. Hopefully being saved for a golden age, but possibly heading towards Barcelona...

In other news my wishful thinking comes to naught as Mack takes Maximin. We could pillage hard before the borders pop, but we'd rather not get in a fight with Mack right now (or ever)... We're wondering about offering cash for the city. Which may be dumb, given that he can just attack us in five turns. Anyway, we still have some unfinished business with Madrid, but since we start off with 95% odds it doesn't last long.

No buildings survive, so we get a size 1 blank slate in three turns. Yeah, this attack was pretty dumb. bang

It's not all bad - lots of our 2-movers got enough XP to take amphibious, our drafted muskets can now take promotions and we reduced our unit costs. Note the Archer, moved out of Maximin last turn to gift the city to Mackoti rolleye - Mack loses exactly 0 hammers to get a slightly better city than we end up with duh. I now think I should have sent a small 2-mover force south to keep him honest there, but still, really? If we stick with our turn order from the war Mack will get Toledo too, although there should at least be two units in the city so maybe he doesn't have enough grenadiers on his galleon (presuming Suttree doesn't delete the archers or something).

Onto happier matters, let's attack Ichabod next! Our current plan involves staging galleons on the indicated tiles on t194, then attacking on t195. We're assuming we'll get Astronomy eot192, and Issy will produce galleons eot192 and eot193 using overflow and the whip. BoP will produce two galleys eot188 and eot190 - we'll upgrade one of these galleys here on t194. This allows us to hit Spring Breeze, Talk of the town and The Art of War, or we can unload 2-movers to threaten Deserted Prophet and demand peace in return for more cities. I'd love to have one more galleon so that we can fulfil all these goals, but I can't see how to do that. Also I suspect that Deserted Prophet's warrior would be upgraded to a pike if we put cuirs ashore there.

Down south the second galley out of BoP (probably on t190) can't get to the staging point in time to allow us to carry on the attack on the south coast (we're planning to blitz on to Playing With Fire t196 and The Evening Boat t197). But what if we whip a galley out of Rorke's Drift? I think that works nicely, and allows the second BoP galley to ferry units to the island for the stray geese attack. The other issue down here is that our peace with Mack ends on t192 (I think). If he chooses to snipe our galley here it ruins the plan somewhat. We want to get another ten turns peace before declaring on Ichabod. So perhaps demanding or pillaging Maximin wouldn't be in our interest after all? It's hard to guage what Mack is up to...

Demos and power - what is Ichabod building?

What units are going to go on the various prongs of our attack?

Up north we plan to have three galleons, in the middle (on the tile 1S of Nuremburg) a 2-mover stack for the assault on stray geese and down south one galleon.

We have 10 drafted Muskets, 2 5XP knights 3 catapults and a Mace (none of which can be amphibious) on the island already. Issy will pump out a cat eot188, a pike eot189, a 5XP Musket eot190, a 5XP Cuir eot191 and Galleons eot192 and 193. Nuremburg could switch from the forge to the pike it's been building, but won't have much production from next turn, Om has other things to do, France doesn't make a lot of hammers, but can whip something once it's university is done... Perhaps a galley to improve the ferrying of units? Rorke will whip out a galley t191 or so for the southern assault.

Transport from the mainland is our limiting factor for 2-movers. A knight and a cuir can hop on BoP's first galley t189, the second galley can shuttle units over at 2 per turn from t192 onward, which gets us six more in position by our deadline of t194 (maybe more if we can afford to upgrade this galley too). So add an Amphibious Cuir and seven Amphibious Knights to our stock:
- 10 Muskets
- 2 Knights
- 1 Cuir
- 4 Cats
- 2 Pikes
- 1 Amphibious Musket
- 1 Amphibious Cuir
- 7 Amphibious Knights

I think that gives us a breakdown like this:

On the northern galleons (Spring Breeze, Talk of the Town, others):
- 1 Amphibious Musket
- 4 Amphibious Knights
- 2 Muskets

In the middle (stray Geese):
- 2 Knights
- 1 Cuir
- 2 Amphibious knights (obv don't need to be, so can take other promotions)

Down south on the galleon (Eyes, then Playing with Fire, then The Evening Boat):
- 1 Amphibious Cuir
- 1 Amphibious knight
- 1 Musket

With the rest tagging along behind to reinforce things. If we take Stray Geese with only three units then the two spares can join our other force NW of Eyes to threaten Playing with Fire. This seems a bit stretched, so I think another galley out of France to ferry six more units could be vital. Of course we need to have a decent force on the mainland too, to deter an attack from Mack. Decisions, decisions.

We can switch to slavery/vassalage t189 or 190, I'd go for the earlier date if we're worried about Mackoti and the later if not for the extra turn of caste workshops...

All you need to do is take over those Ichabod cities! Utah would fit pretty well for an un-opposed landing? Good luck, for what it's worth (lim -> 0, approx.) I'm rooting for you guys. twirl

Thanks! thumbsup

Seconded - I especially like Ulm - it features Napoleon capturing the Austrian army of General Mack! dancing Once we've exhausted the alphabet we could do numbers - 1 will be easy, but any thoughts after that? (This is more important to be planning than unit movements isn't it? scared)

On the Axe vs Horse Archer debate the only thing I have to add is that I was a bit dazzled by the options that AGG gave melee units, never having played it properly before, and I've always thought that Spears are so good against HAs that a handful should be a good defense, so I was happy to just keep on adding the cheaper Axes. I suppose that Spears aren't a great offensive unit though, so people build the minimum they think they'll get away with, which gives the HAs more value...

Quickly:
I'm fine with extra galley out of France, the way to go around this is to use more muskets in our nothern stack and devote ~3 of those 3-promo knights for our southern attack. I think getting Playing with Fire quickly is a 1st priority goal, but if an extra galley our of France solves that problem.. thumbsup

Aaaand suttree lives forever lol He founded a city somewhere, who knows where, my guess is some foodless ice city where nobody will find him or does not bother killing him. So maybe he:
1. Wants us to suffer from WW for the rest of the game (my bet)
2. Enjoys lurking this game from inside and wants to keep his ability to log in
3. Wants to outlive someone/everybody

Implication: Our WW is 269, which is probably 1-2 unhappy faces depending on city (did not check) and thus managable, I doubt it's worth sending an expedition.. tongue

PS. Note that I put Agi and Dunkirk on Wealth as a placeholder

Although if we manage to locate his city via map trades I'm sure we would make THH happy if we would send a galleon and erase suttree from the game. I did not capture Toledo because of f***ing turn order. I wonder if mack does not take it. It's a free city after all.. rolleye

Turn 188 part one

Our golden age ended, so I've adjusted everywhere back to max food. We'll switch to Slavery/Vassalage next turn to whip out the units needed to cover our southern border and attack Ichabod. We're on 100% research and should complete Astronomy eot192 as planned. The war weariness from our attack on Suttree is pretty severe, four unhappy in Agincourt... Not really a problem though with our high happy cap.

BaII - you'll be pleased to know you've been assigned one of the most high-profile garrison duties - you're taking care of the Taoist holy city with an axe for company.

We haven't moved anything in the Suttree theater since Mack hasn't played yet, and we should allow him first shot at Toledo if we consider the war turn-split to continue frown. I'll play in the morning and try to remember to offer everyone in the game a map trade to see where Suttree went.

Demos and power - you can see the damage that attack did to our power. Hope no-one else spots it. scared

Damn, 4 frown in Agi is definitely more than I estimated on top of my head. I'm pretty sure it should drop down to 3 quickly though although I can't rememeber the WW unhappiness formula.. Obviously our planned Ichabod actions won't help the issue..
