Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

ah who cares we will build our own catapults anyway and have much better results against them than WPC will. really we don't need WPC to build our army for us, I'm not even sure its worth taking any troops from them. (not saying refuse the deal, we should be ready to fight by then).

As someone in sales, I find Tatu's closing technique to be humorous smile.

I doubt we'll even use Cats. We're doing a knight rush, and banking on them lacking pikes. Don't want cats except for defence. So we need some way of letting them down gently and so they don't feel that we're obliged to give them a 50:50 split of land. 70:30 I'd be happier with, considering we'll be the ones sweeping through their backlines.

The main issue is that they are expecting that their 5 catapults will give them the right to half the German empire- are we okay with that? That is what we are agreeing to here, or at least what they'll think we're agreeing to.

well then just agree to the war, but let them know we don't think it would be fair for us to accept the cats. problem solved.

Yeah I see no reason to accept a pittance amount of cats and then agree to a predefined land split. We can race to Berlin and let the lines fall where they may.

Let's hope the relations don't end the way they did the last time two armies raced to Berlin.

(Edit: And yes, I do know the Eisenhower deliberately choose not to go for Berlin immediately because no German troops or weaponry were being built there by the end of the war).
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

So, do I take the lack of response on the CFC message to mean that people are generally happy with it? I'm not in a rush to send it and it can wait until tomorrow, but I don't want to send something of that level of significance before everyone gets a chance to critique it.

I agreed with it completely; it would be very useful to get a long-lasting peace commitment with one of the only two teams that can actually hurt us (CFC and UniversCiv). However, I'd wait another 12 hours until tomorrow just to let more people weigh in with their opinions. It's definitely a big message.

...Feel free to take your time thinking about this. There's no pressure here at all since our NAP still has 30T remaining. This is certainly not a "take it or leave it" offer, we're just trying to initiate talks here. Poke me on chat whenever if you have any questions. smile

What do you guys think?

Sounds good. Nice job, as usual.

I had a couple of small language nits with the CFC message, but these were already picked up.

I think you should avoid using "I think" when talking about our team, Scooter. It weakens the message that you speak for our entire team. (Using it about the other teams is perfectly fine!)

Otherwise, the main diplo news I can provide is that the Germans has hooked up furs. We might want to trade a spice for that later on, if we get the opportunity.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width
