I'd say the most important reason for clearing the forest is to make the city more defensible, so that an attacker from the west cannot park his stack on it.

So, for the moment, we have:
a) chop to finish monument in Ra (fire & ice) b) chop to deny coverage to attacking armies (NobleHelium) c) ? Any more votes, guesses? A chance to participate in the buildup in the Glorious Malakim Empire is nothing to be sneezed at! ![]()
C) So the worker can flee to the safety of the city if a lizardman pops in the ruins while he's farming the floodplains.
DaveV Wrote:C) So the worker can flee to the safety of the city if a lizardman pops in the ruins while he's farming the floodplains. Smart man, our DaveV! ![]() Let's have a look at the screen shot again: Obviously I want to farm that Floodplains. With the forest still in place, Huldrych the Worker wouldn't have any safe moves should a second Lizard appear on the Ruins. Every move would still put him into harm's way. So, congrats to DaveV, should you wish it the next city name is yours to choose! (by the way, the theme is actually Sun/Sky Gods, either historical or fantasy) Ilios Wrote:So, congrats to DaveV, should you wish it the next city If you don't mind another Egyptian god after using Ra already, I nominate Horus (because he was my favorite character in Roger Zelazny's Creatures of Light and Darkness). DaveV Wrote:If you don't mind another Egyptian god after using Ra already, I nominate Horus (because he was my favorite character in Roger Zelazny's Creatures of Light and Darkness). Alright, Horus it is. ![]() T61 & T62: So, turns out there's this groovy Dwarven Goddess, called the Earthmother... ![]() Oooh, dead sexy... ... So anyway: Meaning I needed to set the Malakim on a new research path. Let's have look at the options: - Festivals: Needed for those critical Markets, but I'd rather wait till the switch to Financial so I can get them at half the proce. - Animal Husbandry: I'll know where them Horsies are, and improve the Sheep tile around the Capital, and the Cows near Ra. But I won't have any Workers in position for at least 5-6 turns, so skip. - Fishing: I have no coastal cities (yet). I would be able trade resources with the Luchuirp and Balseraphs. Thanks but no. - Hunting: I'd like to get it, but at 460 beakers a significant investment, and besides, I do not have any resources (Deer, Ivory, Fur) to improve. Some day I suppose. - Education: I won't be building cottages in this game. Well, maybe one, for fun! I'll need to get to Code of Laws and Aristocracy. - Masonry: No. Eventually to get Construction. - Knowledge of the Ether: Yes, as soon as I can upgrade 10 Exp Lightbringers to Savants (Ashen Veil Missionaries), and then to Mages. So not yet. - Philosophy: Needed for the extra happy from Incense via Desert Shrines, and Priesthood eventually. Quote:'No no no no NO!!' Bronze Working it is! I went 100% research on T61, and 100% gold the turn after. I should probably get some more gold for one more turn, in case I get a Great Scientist for an Academy. The free RoK Thane has converted Helios as well, and the city is working only improved tiles for the first time: It would seem that I was wrong, and that God King does not give you an extra happy. But I was also wrong in that I thought a Temple only gives an extra happy with the Religion Civic, but it gives an extra happy with a State Religion as well. The Settler will actually finish with exactly enough hammer overflow to finish the RoK Temple (base cost 80 hammers) in one turn. ![]() Over at Ra: The Monument is finished with the chop, and the city is now working on a Worker. Notice Skeletor moving into a position, meaning Huldrych cannot start on a floodplains farm. ![]() I've set him to roading for a turn, hoping Skeletor moves in with the neighbours instead. I will almost certainly move White Dot (Horus) a tile northwest: Pro's: - Only four tiles from En-Kai and Helios, makes for a more compact empire - loses 3 peak tiles and a desert tile - can borrow tiles from En-Kai and Helios - founded a turn earlier, and within Malakim borders Con's: - overlap with En-Kai and Helios - loses the grass reagents - grabs less land I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning towards moving the Dot. Demographics: C & D: The Balseraphs have founded a new city. The Ljosalfar have discovered Way of the Forest. The Lanun have gained another tech. The Doviello have finally, after 14 turns, discovered another tech. Education? The Luchuirp have discovered Education as well I think. The Calabim got point increases, good for them...
T63:
Ok so I've decided to move White Dot, and have placed the Settler and his escorts into position: It will initially borrow a grass farm from En-Kai, and should finish its Monument by the time it grows to size 2 (aided by two chops). Just in time for the switch to Financial... ![]() En-Kai has finished its Desert Shrine: The city has hired a Priest, and will be running a small food deficit for five turns, till the Great Person is born. I'll have about 70% chance of getting a Scientist. At that exact moment I will be allowed to make another Civic swap, to Religion, so every city with a Temple of Kilmorph will get another 2 extra happiness. Skeletor moves in: Well, that sucks... Huldrych moves to the forest, and will be roading the tile, and hopefully the Skeleton will be dead by the time he's finished. C & D: The Ljosalfar capital has grown to size 7. We can expect the Elves to grow rapidly once their forests become Ancient (+ 1 food). The Luchuirp third city (Mutanbo) has (finally) grown to size 2.
Presumably, no matter what your first Great Person ends up being, you won't be disappointed - Academy and Shrine will both benefit your civilization. Still, what would be your preference?
Also, a couple more names for your workers: Erasmus Roterodamus Jan Hus Maksim Wrote:Presumably, no matter what your first Great Person ends up being, you won't be disappointed - Academy and Shrine will both benefit your civilization. Still, what would be your preference? I'd much rather get the Academy going. En-Kai will be producing around 30 base commerce once I get those Dyes improved, and all those grass rivers will turn into 4/0/4 tiles once I've finished the switch to Financial and Aristocracy. The Tablets of Bambur are nice to have, but what the hell am I supposed to do with a source of Earth Mana? Technically I would then be able to have access to the Domain 2 spell, if I borrow one source from the Luchuirp, and claim the Standing Stones. Too bad Stoneskin only targets the caster... I'd rather bulb Priesthood for access to the Malakim Worldspell, or build a piece of the Altar of the Lunnotar and get free xp when building Divine troops. (eg Lightbringers) Thanks for the names! ![]() |
