This was cause by trying to connect to the game with wrong mod loaded. I have done this myself in the past a couple times. The game connects and the civ selection screen is still displayed with the wrong mod loaded, but after entering password the game crashes. Is there some way to test from the civ selection screen that the mod version matches what the server requires, and display a warning if the wrong mod is loaded?
