Gavagai manages his personal GULAG

Our lack of early-game traits is starting to get felt, people are onto 4, or even 5 cities, and our third Settler is only just coming out.

On the other hand, we are going to get some good use out of our Mints — Construction at 5 pop will be putting out a crazy 15 hammers, completing the Mint in 4 turns with overflow for a crazy +4hpt straightaway, soon to grow to +5. At 20hpt (16+4) and 24 for buildings due to OrgRel, we can start some serious military build up, whilst raising some good infrastructure too. This has prompted our early research of Metal Casting.

Otherwise, stuff is going painfully slowly, not least due to lack of culture in Kolyma and the cancelled chop. Some succor lies in Skirmishers having 85% odds when attacking fully fortified warriors, so we are going to start farming the barbarian city for XP. We will only be able to take it once we have an axe, though. Getting a Drill 2 Skirm to mess on the Persian border would be fun (neither Chariots nor Immortals are immune to first strikes, and he will have 2-4).

Worker micro for nearest turns.

In the north one worker should be transferred south to a hill 1N from capital. It should chop the forest there, build a mine, then move 1NW and chop/cottage. The second worker should go to stone and quarry it, then go to a hill 1SW and build a road.

The fresh worker from the capital should go to Ivory.

In the east. Whorever of workers finishes the camp earlier should go to copper and mine. The second one should go to tundra 1 NE from Norilsk, chop and then build a road.

5th pop in Construction to work grass forest whilst the quarry completes? I mean, it will still grow to 6 before the quarry is done, if only one worker is working on it. And how badly do you want the plains hill mine in the capital, it's a pretty useless tile given the lack of food. Otherwise all good on the workers.

I feel like whipping Kolyma, maybe next turn? What was the growth math for Norilsk, it's working the flood plains cottage now, to start working the camp once that completes?

Settler in Construction859 after the next Skirm (three Skirms total built)?

Don't we need a Barracks in Norilsk? Or are we hoping for some fucking religion spreads, finally?

And what are the demos? smile

1) In Construction we will work a forest for one turn then whip Barracks for 2 pop. It will regrow immediately or in 1 turn.

2) In Gulag I plan to work this mine at size 4 while building a settler. It's not especially urgent but we really need a chopper hanging around the capital and building a mine seems to be a good thing to do besides chopping. We may skip it if we feel a pressing need to chop another forest ASAP.

3) I planned to frow Kolyma to size 5 then whip a worker for 2 with overflow + chop into an axe. Than it will sit on Corn + Gold + Copper while Norilsk is growing to S3 on cottage and Deer. After Norilsk is S3, it will take the copper mine and Kolyma will take back cottage and start to grow againg.

4) Plan for Construction: whip Barracks, regrow to 5 while building skirms then settler or worker - settler.

5) We need Barracks in Norilsk but I want to build another skirm first. We will be moving to barb city and are going to become pretty thin on reserves while our units are there.

6) We are 12th in food and hammers, slightly above average in both.

Norilsk will just work camp + two mines, right? For a super-efficient 15 hammers of three pops.

Yep, until border pop.

Next turn second worker in the south should also go to copper mine or we can't finish it in time.

A graphical time-series of the total camp population and their locations throughout USSR. Some of the stand-out ones we already have — the one in the far east is Kolyma and the one bang in the middle, towards the northern coast is Norilsk. Both mined gold and copper, respectively.

Fascinating and horrifying. I presume the sudden reduction in population around 1943-4 was people getting moved into the army instead? What caused the similar drop in '53?
