I have considered looking at some of the events over at CFC but never taken them forward when the object basically revolved around either score bashing or earliest date.
I have yet to register at CFC. I occaisionally go on there for reference but always as a guest.
By the way - Nice read that one - you seem to assess the situation really well when considering the pay off - Cash rushing cathedrals for example. Nice work - always an insight!

Very much so, T-hawk! Thanks for another report.

My impression of CFC that it's all about bending the game mechanics as much to one's advantage as possible, especially manipulating the AI, start, and huts. (And patience). Clearly, there's no atmosphere of trust (given their size, I don't think they CAN trust everyone). And the save-reloading problem T-Hawk ran into...I'm sorry, but that's an evil way to do it.
I think there are Deity-level games under some of their weirder set-ups that are as easy as (if not easier than) a standard Prince game with a crappy start and nasty neighbors (Religious Deity Tiny comes to mind, especially with rolling a start of choice: Rush Theo, build AP, send missionaries to size-1 cities of your two opponents, win). However, I do think some of their better players would make for great beta-testers: they'd find all the holes and exploits very efficiently.

Fun write-up T-hawk.
Quote:*I'm amazed that nobody else ever reports performance slowdown as a problem. For me, that behavior of Civ 4 has been consistent across three computers and four video cards. Civ slows down drastically over time while playing - as much as five full seconds to respond to each click in a city screen. Saving and reloading fixes it. Whatever it's doing is CPU bound, I can hear the CPU fan spin up during the delays. But I've never heard of anyone else experiencing this; either all my computers are somehow specially weird, or else everybody just thinks that's normal and doesn't even see a problem.
I've been putting up with the same nonsense since Civ 4 first came out, but I simply chalked it up to the fact that my video card is a pos and I don't have enough RAM. It's the #1 reason why I often don't bother finishing games.

Hi,

[...] But I've never heard of anyone else experiencing this Sure, you have - we talked about this some years ago. And if I remember correctly, I've been the one telling you about the reload trick to fix it. Sorry that it came back to haunt you now with the HoF mod... :neenernee

Does anyone not have the problem, actually? I've tried Civ 4 on several computers, all of different performances, and i get the same slowdown problem all the time...

I've never had that problem. Civ runs slower when my empire gets larger, but reloading doesn't change anything.
I have to run.
