I like Stalin, haven't played with him much.
About victory conditions, cultural would be logical with the wonder requirement, although I am aware that the ideal way of cultural victory is with cottages and the cultural slider, but still.

I've never used any of the three leaders so Stalin is fine with me. If we do have to drop some late game whup ass, the Cossacks are pretty nasty.
One thing to think about for our first Wonder: we have to finish another Wonder within 25 turns of completion. So if we knock out a real early one, that just starts the clock on the next Wonder. I would prefer to have a Wonder that is likely for us to get, and finish, around turn 40-45. I feel like Henge and Great Wall usually drop long before then, but that might be about right for the Oracle. That is just pure guesswork, I don't have any numbers to back that up.
The thing about going for the cultural victory is that we will still need to keep building Wonders or risk having to delete our whole army and lose a Legendary city. So that means we may not be able to just turn off the beaker flow entirely, as we may need more techs to open up new Wonder builds.
The downside to building lots of Wonders in your Legendary cities is that you may create a very messy pool of GPPs, and lose out on some Great Artists. The upside is that each Wonder generates oodles of culture.
Here is question for the experienced lurkers: when Henge obsoletes, does it obsolete the cultural points of Henge, or does it just obsolete the effect of giving each city a Monument?

The monuments disappear, but Stonehenge it's self keeps on producing culture.

Well we could discard the cultural victory idea, and just set up a production city that will create all our wonders. The only thing it will do is produce wonders unless it gets some in between to create some economic buildings or military units. That way we could concentrate all our other cities for more important stuff. Ideally if we did this we wouldn't use our capital for it, and instead place our second city at a good production spot if we find one and let it complete a wonder around turn 45-50 as you said.

Sounds like a workable idea to me. I was thinking that we would want two cities producing our Wonders, just so our capital could make other useful buildings in addition to Wonders, but that would solve the problem just the same. Also, if we ran a few Engineer specialists in our production city, we could maybe keep some Engineers hanging around to rush out Wonders if it ever looked like we were going to miss one of our 25 turn cut-offs.

Sounds like a good plan. Build a good production city for Wonders.
Worker first, maybe two workers to chop a lot of forest for the first wonder?

I am so biting my tongue not to throw in all sorts of culture advice here.
You may want to adjust the rules to cover the Renaissance time period when there aren't any world wonders to build. From Taj Mahal and the Divine Right wonders up until Broadway at Electricity can take well more than 25 turns.

I would be obliged for any advice. I am not attempting to play this as some examination to determine my own skill level. I am trying to learn. I don't know of any better way to learn than getting advice from better players, trying to implement that advice, and then getting critiqued on what went wrong.
What would you suggest we do to modify the rules during the Renaissance era? You know the progression of Wonders much better than us.
We may not even go for culture, but that just seemed like the obvious initial thought.

hah, you know each of these threads have rb vets just slobbering to give sage advice at every less than perfect move right?
Not to imply Liq is anything past a lazy emp player mind you but if you want lurker comments, here is prolly better.
Seems lots going back to BTS to satiate that civ itch Civ5 isn;t enough to fill currently.
BTW one thing to consider is agree on a leader, then restart completly, x starts with that leader.
Enjoy!!!!
Cheers!

I look forward to it.

I assume you are saying I should re-roll 3 starts for Stalin and let the players vote on that? I am cool with that if everyone wants me to.

I'm playing in RBSG2 for Civ V as well and I have no intentions on giving up on that game. But considering I only played maybe a dozen games of Civ IV from start to finish, I am nowhere near finished with it yet.
