There should be both scout and warrior there and based on tile bleed Bananas can be coastal and we can verify it moving our scout SW. If we settle and pop hut we can get a tech. Only if we move warrior before settling we can't get one.

I don't think so...I thought you had to have the city founded and like the dialog box gone before you can get a technology?

We're live. I moved the scouting units. Unirrigated rice in the south and fishies further north. Bananas are coastal. Settling on top of Bananas and starting to build WB is probably best. Reseach Mining-BW. What do you think?
We're probably in the middle of the equator mainly jungle close by. There seems to be some jungle also NW. So we need a lot of workers and early IW.
Settling in place could also work. In case our 2nd city goes near the fishies having both cities close to each other sharing resources would be good idea.
Settle on the banana! For sure.

Second city either 1W or 2W of the fish. 2W of the fish would be great with early religion...risky but could pay off with this many players in the game. It may be hard to get a religion without conquering someone in this game. But I don't know, at least one of the (apparently) newbies will probably research it early. Either way we can build a work boat from the capital for the new city so not being able to share food doesn't matter much.

I hope my tone doesn't sound too whiny since I'm totally alright where we're now. I just need to state the facts as they are so that I can also try to find the best course of action what to do.
So our start is subpar. Only 4 food tiles. No rivers. No commerce specials. Jungle close by probably surrounding us. As a plus side it seems we're in some kind of corner that will be easier to defend. There will be a significantly better capitals around. It seems our destiny in this game is to be a minor nation. Now the question is. Can we find out a way to become a major player here? The main problem is that pretty much everything we try to do someone else can do way better. We do't have enough food or production to outexpand anyone, build a big army or build an early wonder. Our commerce potential is of weaker side. Here are the things we could do: * Rely on luck . Maybe someone else does the job for us and cribbles our neighbor so we could take advantage of the situation or we can always hope for super city spots close by. We just need to be prepared so that, if there is an opportunity we've the resources to take advantage of the situation. * Rely on diplo. We almost certainly won't be major player in this game. Therefore diplomacy should be easy as we could try to get pressure against our neighbors and then take advantage of the situation. * Try some gambits: - Farmer's one - This is Always war and Jungle means that we probably can't build many cities without IW. We could try to build up strongish economy beeline to Guilds while building HAs and hope that upgraded Knight stack does the trick for us. Not sure we've the needed commerce potential - Religion - I don't think we've a realistic shot at founding a religion unless we start Mystisicm now. Bad idea. - Rush - If someone is close by a warrior one or if we have horses Chariot. If done early enough we could find our neighbor unprepared that is essential for these to work. However, it seems that AH isn't high on our priority list unless we lack copper and even then going for IW might be more important - Wonders - As I see it we don't have realistic shot at Stonehenge, Oracle or Pyramids unless we sacrifice everything - not a good idea. Colossus would be very useful from this start, but without a chance to Oracle Metal Casting it is very expensive to get it. GLH would be useful, but I'm not sure it is worth the forests we've. Maybe, if we need to slow down our expansion to get IW we might try to grab GLH Obvivously we can't make very good plan just based on T0. But it is good to have alternatives listed so that we're prepared. At this point going for Mining-BW, settling on bananas and starting WB seems best course of action.
OK, well that scouting makes things look a lot better. Planting on the Bananas seems like a good decision for sure, now.
Your analysis is pretty spot on, Plako. If I were you, I would probably play in a very risky (farmer's gambit or warrior choke/archer rush, depending on how close your neighbor is) manner. It's the best shot you have. No rivers, no 5+ food tile, no happiness resources in sight, few tiles that are even eligible for copper/iron/horse, lots of jungle, Mehmed of Netherlands.....eesh! At least you have Expansive + forests, I guess. "There is no wealth like knowledge. No poverty like ignorance." |
