Haha, James Bond flew around in an overcranked helicopter with the Queen! It's like my fanfiction come to life!
Yeah, that was pretty cool, lots of pop culture references, of which I think I understood a third. No Dr. Who tho, nor LotR. The overlong "Love Story" magical musical journey segment switched between 80's to 50's to 70's to 80's to 90's and then I think we concluded on the 80's again, although it may have been contemporary ironic hipsters.
American and French teams need to trade uniforms. Apologies Brits, your outfits are ugly as sin. Gold armpits?
China is led by a terrifying giant, calling their victory in all events now.
Looking forward to the games proper =)
PS: Good to see that Pocketbeetle isn't dead!

I think the Independent Athletes of the World were the highlight. Don't have a government to answer to? Then dance around and make faces at the crowd! I was rolling in laughter.
Oh and I'll join the rest and say Hi to PB as well, you still should have at least wrapped up your thread, I was a sad panda after all of that buildup. :P
EDIT: And I know it was a stunt double, but the image of the Queen of England parachuting from the heli was indeed priceless.

Anybody catch the Women's Fencing Single Foil finals? I've never watched fencing before, it was much more exciting than I would have expected. Lots of really aggressive attacks, sudden death match deciders, victory fist pumping.

The last time I tried to watch fencing the buzzer would sound every time before I could see the rapiers moving.

No LotR?
The first twenty minutes of the show was the Shire (pastoral rural English countryside) being destroyed by Saruman (Industrial Revolution), who then crafted five Rings of Power, which rained sparks across the land.

Stuck in Egypt, so can't get the BBC. Having to try and watch online with IP forwarders, but the quality is rough.
Enjoyed the road cycling so far.

I have to say, NBC's coverage can be extremely frustrating at times. The other night we were subjected to 15 minutes of Ryan Seacrest interviewing Michael Phelp's family instead of getting, you know, Olympic event coverage.
I don't find the tape-delaying to be quite as obnoxious as so many other people seem to, but NBC's streaming has been extremely unreliable, and if it happens to glitch (very likely) and you miss something, they won't let you watch the replays until the next day. My home connection is around 6-7Mbps down, which is plenty enough to stream fairly high quality video (ESPN3 works flawlessly for instance), but the NBC streaming keeps choking. I guess I figured it's 2012 and we've had several "Internet Olympics" already, so I don't quite understand why it seems so clunky still.
Edit: It hasn't happened yet, but if someone wants to talk about a major event happening live, can I request spoiler tags? I'll probably mostly watch the primetime coverage for a lot of major events and would rather not be spoiled.

I just wish there was more archery and shooting being aired on US tv. But that's not the most popular so no dice.

I wish the primetime coverage was a lot less random than it currently is. I know it's essentially SportsCenter Olympics because they have so much to cover, but I've grown accustom to more informed sports viewing and so going studio segment -> rowing semi-finals -> studio segment -> gymnastics qualifying -> studio segment -> swimming finals just isn't how I like consuming content.

Or at least let us know what's coming. As far as I know, NBC doesn't really tell you ahead of time what's coming. Last couple nights you know it's mostly gymnastics and swimming, but I never really know what's coming next. You'd think with NBC tape-delaying it, they could give you very precise schedules of what is airing at what time, but I've yet to see anything like this. So I end up just watching and having no idea if I'll be watching gymnastics, swimming, or yet another Seacrest interview after the commercial break.
