I can't give advice on how to play out this start, nor really can I comment on how you should play out the pick strategies. The most I can say is that PB3 went incredibly well for me including a starting warrior kill and a 1 WC capital kill against another neighbour, and that the strategy I employed in that game left me totally behind everyone else in terms of expansion, food, population, cities and workers. That is simply a fact of what happened in that game.

Hah, I'm reading it now and I noticed the comment about killing the new guy with the starting warrior. That's one thing I do like about this mod, everyone starts with a scout. Worker first is just so insanely optimal that you basically have to do it, and that makes every single real time MP game a dice roll.
I got the leader and civilization that I wanted. This means that I have no one to blame but myself.
![]() I thought it was interesting that people seemed to prize the charismatic trait rather highly. I thought about taking Lincoln myself, but I think Financial remains a much stronger long term economic trait. It's obvious that I will be a little behind in production early, but I am planning to chop forests aggressively -- not for wonders -- but just for the hammers to get settlers, workers, and (hopefully) axes or war chariots out quickly. In short, I don't think that having that extra +1 or (best case) +2 happiness makes Charismatic that much more attractive. I might be wrong. Um, you do know this is a mod game? Cha's been changed to +3 happy in all cities, no building required. I might be wrong. Yep, I'm aware. I'm comparing to base BtS. The way I see it, it's VERY strong if you can land the Pyramids and switch to Representation, but I decided that gunning for the 'mids is too risky, so I'd still want to run Monarchy anyway. It seemed to be of very dubious value to me. Of course, if I get stomped early by someone with faster promotions and larger cities, then you can feel free to throw this back in my face.
After some minor technical difficulties. I am live. I hadn't noticed that there are floodplains south of the wheat. That really tempts me to move 1s.
I send my scout 1NW to see what's in that one unexplored tile in my BFC. Using spoiler tags because this board doesn't automatically resize images. And even then, that's still annoying. I will shrink them from here on out. Those tiles north of my capital are showing fresh water, which means that the body of water I can see is a lake. If I move 1s, I will not have fresh water while working floodplains. Hrm. And this site won't be lacking for food. I decide to settle in place. I'll work those flood plains with another city. Thebes is settled. And we reveal some more terrain: I'm going to go worker first, researching mining. I aim to get bronze working first, followed up immediately by mysticism. I am going to send that scout south next. Still no luxuries visible.

Not much happening on turn 2. I move my scout onto the plains hill and uncover:
![]() Rice and furs. Well, that's one luxury, even if it looks at first glance to be in an absolutely godawful place. I think I am going to move my scout NE-N before swinging back down. The border pop in Thebes in a couple of turns should help me scout that area, anyway. |
