I think what happened is the threat level of early drops in arena increased a lot. It's not uncommon to see a 4/4 on turn 3 now as opposed to 3/3, and if you don't have an answer to a t2 micro machine you're in trouble too. plus whoever's ahead gets more out of Spare Parts. That's why playing more control/card advantage oriented decks now carries a higher risk of being blown out early. I also feel it's important to have enough 4 damage effects in order to grab tempo in the current arena, there are a huge amount of x/4 cards around now (which also makes yetis even more godlike.)
