Yeah hopefully they fix perf issues. That last mission is probably a lot of fun if you snatch the gatekeepers with psi agents.

I was really surprised how much I liked Xcom2. I feel like adding the timer so often was a good addition as well. At least at the difficulty I was playing at I feel like they added just the right number of turns available, any more and you could just ignore it, any less and it just would have gotten frustrated. I tend to play the game like a puzzle though - "which approach is the optimal one" kind of thing, so that interests me. In the first game I was very cautious, so I think this makes everyone play a much more interesting game.
The thing too is that the timer doesn't dominate the game - often there's only a timer till you reach the objective and if you play right, killing everything that you didn't wake up can be done much safer.
I have a fairly capable computer so I didn't notice any issues with the graphics slowdowns, but the game does seem to crash every once in awhile, which the first game didn't do...

That's the normal pattern for every game: a big opening on release followed by a dropoff. Only very rare games with long "legs" avoid this distribution. Put another way, don't you expect more people to be playing on release weekend as opposed to three months later?

more people will be playing on release weekend than three months later. what matters is the rate of fall-off.
it amazes me is how fast XCOM 2 is loosing player hours.

Not trying to be contrarian, but is it losing players faster than other games? I have no intuitive sense of whether the slope shown is above or below average.

I think it is an interesting observation.
Let's keep in mind that the graph shows the last 30 days and XCOM 2 is a strategy game and should have more replay value than something like "Rise of the Tomb Raider" (which displays a similar looking graph).

That is a good point.

I checked some other graphs including other primarily single player games (such as Civ 5 and GTA 5) and it does seem to be losing them a lot faster than the other top titles. The other games are much older though and are already way past the initial release frame. So they could have had a steep decline like that as well, but their steady state level is much higher than XCOM's.

XCOM is story based, I won't be replaying it until DLC hits.

Civ games in general are very different than most other games, they aren't really a good comparison.
