Makes sense. Glad i asked. Forever wars are no fun when you are on the other side of it anyway..
Still trying to figure out a good naming theme. We are looking at 50+ cities at the time of a win even on deity so need something with plenty of potential names.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

Quote:Hey guys,
Now that many stories have been opened, there was a lot written about the map or the starting poses and the surrounding area, as well as here in the thread.
Some, what was desired, but seems to have worked quite well. For example, enough changes have been made to the map to make it difficult to replicate a launch.
Other things, however, did not seem to have worked so well. For example, the harsh conditions were criticized here and in the spectator thread is discussed whether the starting positions are balanced (enough).
I myself am currently very insecure.
Maybe I should not have modified the map by myself, but should have accepted Ramk's help, which he had offered (and if indeed a player had jumped, then just another solution would have to be found). That's a massive responsibility.
I prefer to put up with the embarrassment of this post rather than having to go through months or even years here. That's not the point. It's about having fun at the game and we readers enjoy reading and cheering.
Therefore, I propose the following:
- With Ramk, a neutral looks over the map. He had already agreed anyway. HeymlicH even offered himself as a card reader in the spectacle thread.
- The card is not revised after feedback / something / much (?!?).
- Depending on the scope of the changes, we continue at the same place or start again.
I know that you have already invested time in the game. I'm sorry. But I thought I better say something right away.
From the referee/map maker translated to English.
Personally im still hoping that we can throw back Churchill, but i am kind of glad that the map will be getting some work done to it.. Gives my team more time to decide on a naming theme.

Naming theme: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hi...characters
Our start:
Blue: indicates where the game says is a "good" city spot.
Waiting for feedback before settling.

Man, I was really expecting the worst: name-calling and rage-quits and things like that. But everyone was so nice and understanding, and I got so much help fixing the map. What an awesome community!

Well, at least from RB's standpoint.. its not every day there is a 52 player game. I'd expect there to have been more rage quitting about 100t from now if the starts were found to be dry rice vs flood plains double gold river valley tbh. Only future complaint i have for any PB's is to prefer to use RTR mod as it balances things so that it isnt so much better to be Pacal vs Toku. But thanks for taking the time to set this up, i hope to have a great 2+ years playing this.
Planting on the plains hill which leaves a decent city south of the cow.

One thing I would say (learnt this from OH actually) is that discussing cities can be a lot easier and less error prone if you are able to name them in alphabetical order (either starting with the cap or first expansion). I've certainly seen players and de-lurkers get their wires crossed when there have been multiple similar names.
Looks like you've already got a good naming theme sorted but I thought I would throw things out there, given that you're playing England. My ideas were:
- Famous Royal Navy ships. No shortage of them for any letter, except maybe 'X', and you get to call your cap Victory if you want.
- Country houses, mansions and palaces, real or fictional. Again, no shortage of names. Churchill, of course, was born at Blenheim.
Good luck!
It may have looked easy, but that is because it was done correctly - Brian Moore

Using that thought process, and with some painstaking work.. Here is a list of names from A-Z: Using these links

Dr Mary Malone
Elaine Parry
Father Gomez
Giacomo Paradisi
Hester
Iorek Byrnison
John Faa
Kirjava

A fair list. If we survive to the end game there are plenty more names from the books that we can use.

Quick Feedback from a guy from "over there" on this:
Most actually wouldn't care about it too much, I suppose. But some actually might be irritated.
Your city naming solution looks cool to me
Enjoy the game and have lots of fun!
