2 people controlling 1 civ doesn't add anything except that those 2 players can pool their skill; one possibility is that if a pair consist of someone trying to learn, and someone teaching, that the new plyer will be marginalised.
Subs for people having absences over the summer work just as well as pairs; ideally IMO the subs would be sorted out asap though (but then again, if I knew when I had a holiday I'd try to reciprocate the offer to someone else having a holiday ie I do his saves while he is away, he does mine while I am away).
I'm against permenant alliances; a 2v2v2v2v2v2 is really just a large 6 player ffa. I was kinda looking forward to the possibility of large diplomatic blocks forming in this game (and the diplomacy contained within them).

Well I am (notioriously) easy, so am happy to go with whatever is decided by better minds than mine.
I know that I will have unreliable access for the first three weeks of August, however I know that my usual sub is available and I don't think he circulates this forum.

Yep, I am also not for fixed teams.
I would be ok with a two player civ.
Anyone out there that wants to team up with me. Workload can be divided. I am away from 18.Sept - 1.Oct as far as I can foresee. So a team mate should not be away at the same time.

I would love to pair up with you, m_h, but so would a lot of other people
I am away August 27 to September 4 and will probably have infrequent and short OOPs throughout the school year.

Yes, I'm one of those people who would love to pair up with m_h.
But really, I'm happy to be paired with anyone.

Two minds sharing ideas is likely an advantage but that doesn't bother me... I expect there to be a variety of differently skilled players in the game anyway. I don't want it to turn into a pairs game (I guess I think it will be more fun playing against people rather than teams), but some nations paired up doesn't bother me if people really want to.
(Permanent alliances are a whole different ball game.)

I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.
