So, been a while since I've updated this. Yuris is making serious war preparations. He's in nationalism and drafting, and it's showing up in his power graph. I'm slaving wherever I can, but still getting left behind.
As far as I can tell, his navy is just one galley and one trireme, so this is what he's planning to attack with:
Which is annoying, because it's taking so long just to get units up there that he might actually be able to take that city. But I'll have time to upgrade some rifles, first.
Anyway, this is pretty funny. We've got so much beaker overflow now, that I can actually research Future Tech in one turn, with no prerequisites.

I screwed up by running gold for so long since I was just trying to build you up some surplus to play around with when you took over. If I had turned research on 3 turns sooner, you would already have rifles and engineering, and you probably could get cannons before he can declare on T117.
I still think you should tell him (the truth) that if he attacks, you will have galleons and then frigates within 3-5 turns and you will blockade him back into oblivion. This is a serious threat for a FIN civ that is relying on Colossus to prop up his economy. Either way he will be screwed. Either you blockade him, or if he rushes Astronomy to counter, he obsoletes Colossus.

Actually, I like GES's message better than the one that was sent... I DO think you should threaten them both a little bit. When you start to sense a dogpile, intimidation can be a nice way to avoid it... especially when they WILL be badly over-matched technologically.

Yeah... I definitely need to work on diplomacy with Yuris. There is some hope. Here's the message I sent him 2 turns ago:
Quote:By the way, I hope you're keeping an eye on RL7. All their stats are growing quickly as their new cities come out of revolt.
And his response:
Quote:Hey, we're definitely keeping an eye on him, and have a plan in place
to neutralise his threat
The problem is, they still have an NAP. But it's true that RL7 is more of a thread overall than us right now, and also his janissaries would do a lot better against their knights than against our rifles.

I think he's lying to you. Sure he's saying that, but no NAP with you and a NAP with RL7 is pretty telling. Call him on it.
I think players are starting to piece it together that in 25T you will be unreachably far ahead in tech... So smart money says a dogpile is coming your way.

yeah, very possible. RL7 won't do anything though, and so far commodore hasn't increased his power at all. So right now it's only yuris I'm really worried about.
I think I'll just have to defend with rifles (drafting if necessary) until I can get tanks. Unfortunately I can't convert to nationalism yet since I just switched to theocracy.

I would dial up both Comm (who is always on) and yuris (who I never bothered with) and talk to both of them. Diplo goes a long way in these games.

Watch out if yuris shows up with a bunch of Keshiks, because then you just might be Groundhog Day'ing PBEM14.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Well, talked to yuris and commodore for a while. Pretty sure commodore won't do anything, but yuris is determined to attack. Basically, he knows that it probably won't work, but he sees it as his only chance to accomplish anything in this game, which is true. So I don't know how to argue against that.

Here's the current state of the border. Yuris still doesn't really have much there. I don't either, but by the time fighting starts on turn 118 I'll have 9 rifles, 2 muskets, and 5 catapults there. Maybe more rifles If I switch to Nationalism.
He doesn't have much in his back lines either. I can't believe he hasn't closed borders yet, to evict my scouting chariot.
I absolutely love having riverside windmills with financial and replaceable parts.
And I 3-pop whipped the National Epic in Karl Strauss. It also generated a Great Scientist this turn. I'm wondering whether I should use it for a Golden Age now, or save it for later.
