RBP3 [SPOILERS] - Friendly Kittens (Ragnar of Maya)

Dots and text on an outdated pic:

Notice purple dot's tentative location to fit with Southern Pink.
That site should be a decent-to-good location, I think.
(Should way 'til Fierias can spare the sheep though.)

Yellow question marks and other weird punctuation?
I thought we'd agreed on Maniac's yellow dot?
We have. Still, check out all those white ????s.
I'm worried we just don't know enough about that region.

Finally, the stuff that matters:
Numbers are the turns on which workers will move to each tile.
White numbers are for Southern Pink
Blue numbers are for Northern Pink
(Note I'm using white and blue dots instead of pink for this map)
Both assume we want to get started improving Pink ASAP.
We should have warriors in position to not let them get eaten T41!
(IF we go with this plan!)
Workers will be chopping the tiles in question.
Pink will be founded T44, with the settler arriving on whichever dot T43.

NOTE: Maniac's Northern Pink+Red plan is NOT a triple-fork.
(We were wrong!)
There's a hill in the way between his black X and his pink.
So if that's part of the consideration, let it lie.
Done with short sentences now. I'll be back later today.

Still at work. We've agreed what to do with the warriors, so I can play the turn in 45 minutes. (Swiss still hasnt played yet anyhow) I'll comment on the dotmap when I get home as well.

Not sure if that's the best location for purple dot. It might be better to just forget about anywhere sharing the sheep and plant purple 2E of your location and put another city on the river E-NE of your purple. We'll have to scout out the north more. In any event, considering what we see in the south and the one site in the NE, the NW isn't a priority so we don't have to decide for a while.

As for Yellow, your ?! might in fact turn out to be a better location, but imo, it's too far out to put a 1st ring city in that location. I know food is very important, but at some point we need at least ONE hammers city in the hills too don't forget.

I think Cull has agreed to your southern pink, so I guess we'll go with that. My only real complaint is that if we place your red on that sugar, it's going to make blue suck, but then who knows if we'll even get blue I guess.

Anyway, I'm going to play the turn now. Back shortly.

OK, so I log in to play the turn, and the first thing I see is this...

Yeah, no barbs forever, then rng hate, then friggin BEARS, and now they just wont leave us alone... (sigh). I'm seriously considering promoting and taking a risk of moving onto that oasis and then to the forested hill next. it's either that or we're going to have to retreat. Swiss hasn't played yet, so I'm going to wait and see what you folks suggest.

Edit: In fact, I'll just keep an eye out for Swiss playing and not make a decision till then. I guess we could recall her. The way the RNG is screwing with us we might want a woody warrior protecting our selttler. (sigh)

Okay, my thoughts as I read through Maniac's last couple posts:

Hmm, good point.
True.
Absolutely.
Very true.
Good point.
Exactly.
Ugh, I agree.

On my own text/dot map above: On consideration, it's probably best to move to the BLUE 37 tiles regardless, for increased flexibility. This works fine for Southern Pink, and is necessary in case something unexpected dictates that North Pink is necessary.

Quote:me: ok, need inputi was about to decide on my own. i'd already logged in to play
Orion: Okay.
me: btw our warrior in the east can NOT make it to that spot by turn 41
Orion: Which spot?
1NE of Southern Pink?
me: the lil white 41
Orion: Right. But Jasana can be there by T41.
And Prrsha can be there by ... when?
me: 43
I assume you've seen Yalara's predicament by now
Orion: Yes.
me: it's a risk to move to the oasis at 1.5 or is it 1.6, not sure.
btw, can we promote her after we've moved her in pitboss?
Orion: I think so, but...
Why wouldn't we promote immediately?
Is there a disadvantage?
me: if we move to the oasis and there is an animal
Orion: (BTW, have to go VERY soon)
me: we'd be better off with C2
Orion: (not being forced out though)
(just pot on the stove I have to attend to - haven't eaten
)
Yuck.
C2?!
me: well woody 1 doesn't help when standing on an oasis...
Orion: Yeah, but...
+0.15 while injured on an oasis...
(+0.15 str that is)
isn't going to save her.
me: but if there is a lion and it's going to try to eat her at 1.5 on an oasis, shes much better off with C2 vs W1
Orion: And it's sacrificing her future for one turn's marginal advantage.
me: well, what do you think. should we recall her now and scout west?
Orion: (Scout east you mean?)
me: yeah
Orion: I would, but it's very conservative.
Hmmm.
me: IF Yalara survives, shes the better scout, but...
Orion: Stupid bear.
Right. That's my concern.
(Also: Stupid lion!)
me: if she dies we're done scouting till chariots.
Orion: Okay.
I would recall her in the hope that Prrrsha gets an easy fight with the injured bear in her region.
With our luck, it already died to someone else's scout, which promptly turned around and moved away from us.
But it does appear that animals don't heal anyway....
me: And, keep in mind, there's a lion trying to found pink dot for the barbs, so that woody1 might come in handy for yalara there too
Orion: Very true.
(grin)
Love, love, love our barb vluck, eh?
Orion: I think that's the best move, but when we spot a bear right next to the tile we're recalling her to, we'll regret it, I guess.
Never knowing there were TWO bears adjacent to the oasis.
me: one more thing
Orion: kay
me: still woody I if we're recalling Yalara, correct?
Orion: Definitely
She'll be in forest the whole way (or practically)
me: though woody 1 won't do much if shes on garrison duty is why i ask
well, yeah it'll help her get there heh
Orion: She probably won't be on garrison for long.
me: alright then.
Orion: One interesting alternative is Medic, by the way. But not what I'd do in these circs.
me: i'm not in favor of medic yet
Orion: Okay, see you after dinner or tomorrow or sometime like that.
me: enjoy your dinner
With that in mind, I'm going to play the turn (finally)

Interesting information, you say?

From the demog screen?

Uhhhh ... it's REALLY hard to figure out all the details from that thing with 16 teams. But Civstats tells me something.

Three other civs have built their second cities:

Portugal four turns ago(!) - looks like they went all-out for an early Settler, and still have a size 2 capital. Probably clear-cut it too. They nearly hid it on civstats, maybe even intentionally. No other explanation for it though.

Inca, just this turn. Hardly surprising that Joao gets his second city this early. I'll look into the details more if it looks to be important, but not tonight.

Oh. And Krill.

This turn, Egypt planted their second city, assuredly with horses in the first ring, having teched AH first, starting with Agri and the Wheel. Next tech was surely Mining, and Bronze will no doubt come in shortly. He went Worker First, or he'd have had a pop-based score increase earlier than he did. I'm not sure what his capital's like, so I don't know if he managed a second worker before his Settler; I suspect not. He did get a second warrior (I assume) and grow to size 2, where his capital is still sitting. He'll probably have his horses hooked up about the time he gets bronze working, chop out a couple War Chariots, and overrun his second neighbor, ensuring he has all the room in the world to expand. This might not be good for diplo, but Krill probably calculated he'd have as many "we're afraid of you" diplomatic penalties as a civ could possibly have no matter WHAT he did. It's not good for early growth either, but he doesn't need that; he auto-razed Korea's capital, but his second neighbor is doing his early growth FOR him; THAT capital, he gets to keep. Let's hope it's not us (remember all those "they can see us, but we can't see them" dots) okay?

Oh, did I say this turn?

I meant LAST turn, because this one just rolled!

Turn played. there is nothing new under the sun domestically. However, there's a good bit of foreign score increases. Ref can tell us all about them later, but I need to go to bed.

There will be new domestic stuff next turn. Bronze working will come in, allowing us to see (hopefully!) where Sulla put our copper, and also. Our workers have moved to two different forests ready to chop up that settler due in 8 (less with the chops of course). Prrsha will also bust some more fog in the east, so that'll be nice too.
