Map Creation is done!
Here are a few overview comments from the sponsor:
- This is a pretty big map. It almost had to be, with 11 different teams in the game! I mean, I guess I could have crammed everyone into a Team Battleground map, but I don't think that's what anyone particularly wanted. Exploration will play an important role in this game.
- I found a unique map for you guys to play on, one that should be different from anything else you've seen before. There should be room for both convention ground warfare and some naval action as well. Coming up with new and different looks for these games is starting to be a bit of a challenge for me, however this one came out really well. I'm very pleased with the final result, and hopefully all of you will feel the same.
- The starting positions are all balanced with one another; not exact copies, but there wan't be any "Imperio" starts in there. I have also made sure that no one is screwed over on the resource end. That won't mean that you have everything perfectly in range - this isn't intended to be a Balanced script - however you won't get totally hosed like team RB in the Apolyton game either.
- With all that said, I have done my best to space all of the players out as evenly as possible and ensure generally fair playing conditions. However, I can already tell you that this map is probably not perfectly balanced. With 11 different players involved across a very large span of terrain, it's simply impossible to completely level the playing field. I've tried to give everyone a score of "100" to start, but someone has probably drawn a "90" and someone else likely has a "110". Don't come complaining to me about this, m'kay? I did the best I could without spending endless hours on the map, and your in-game choices and diplomacy will matter far more than who had slightly better tile yields at the start!
Player number goes in the exact same order as that listed in the first post, so blame the RNG that set up the list if you lose out on any tie-breakers, not me!
In a Simultaneous Pitboss game, this is a fairly minor point.
I'm sending the Worldbuilder file off to sunrise, to get the hosting stuff sorted out. Those of you who requested starting pictures - which was almost everyone! - will have them emailed to you. Anyone whose email I don't have will be PMed the starting pic. I'll also probably only contact one person in each team, so please share info with your partner. Unless a problem arises with hosting, we hope to have the game started in the next 24 hours. Check back in this thread for info on logging into the game.
And... that should be it! Good look to all, have fun out there, and get Civving!
