Turn 052
I dont' know how many games I've had screwed because of bad early game RNG. Well here is a chance for redemption! Now we ride, striking against Nyles to get some quick cities and get ourselves back in the game. You know the setup, Nyles didn't add any units on his turn, but whipped twice so units are coming.
Let's get right to the action!
Green text! THAT'S A WIN! WE'RE GONNA --
...Huh? There's still 2 units in the capital?
Withdraw!?!!!
Well, that's as bad as a loss. I guess the only difference is I get to keep the unit alive, but he still has 2 warriors. So this next one is going to be the one that matters. Need to win this in order to have the attack succeed:
Loss
The Evil League of Evil has rejected my application again
And that's kind of that. Nyles still has 2 units in his capital, I have 1 attacker. A unit is going to be whipped at end of turn. So... I did the only thing I could do: pillaged his cows and offered peace. Just in case he declined I moved my archer up onto his forested hill. He should accept ... otherwise I'm just going to have to grind this out.
Now i need to figure out how I'm going to catch up from these abysmal demos

I'm legitmately depressed about this outcome. It just seems like every time I have early-game RNG it goes against me even when the odds favor me. Having a hard time thinking of one time where I've had the good luck side of things (or even the neutral luck side of things) happen. Seriously, if someone can point me to where this didn't happen I'd love to try and snap myself out of this.
At the same time, this is why I do well when I just build. Because I don't have to deal with disasterous results from RNG. (I'm not saying the 25% chance I had to lose is a totally unlikely outcome. But it just seems like I always hit that 25% when it's not in my favor.)

I'd say a 3/4 chance of getting a position that has a very good outlook for the rest of the game is acceptable if the alternative is mediocre chances.
It's similar to Poker, one has to measure one's play by decisions, not (unlucky) results.

Ignore the results for a moment. If you are satisfied with your decision to attack and think the strategy was sound then you can only be upset for so long. You put your chips in the pot when your cards were ahead. Can't control the RNG so don't be too distraught about the dice rolls. Better IMO to lose this way than to be the cause of your own demise because you made a reckless choice and lost without the odds on your side.
But yeah, however it happens it's tough to take. Hang in there, build your position and keep looking for opportunities.

Indeed. Bold move that obviously paid off for the one team, and you're only 30 hammers lost atm. It's not like you invested too heavily in this, and you said you forced a couple of unit whips. You can still pull this off (plus were you really expecting rather peaceful relations given those borders?)

If it helps, you can scapegoat me. (Still think it was worthwhile).
