[SPOILER] PBEM21, "Zero to Hero" (Kuro, Pericles' Ottomania)

So Sollux, Karkat and Leijon we can agree on, so I won't discuss them.

I disagree with moving Captor 1W, for the following reasons:

The city only has one permanant food resource, as Equius will almost assurdly be using that Corn. And this is a city working...a lot of food minus hills. Your Captor location must borrow the Corn or else it is at least -3 in food total(I didn't bother checking non-hills), which requires 3 farms pre-Biology, which significantly raises the size it must be to work it's production, lowers how fast it grows and makes it hard to whip.
The corn being there doesn't help too much: The Sheep is 5 food and the Corn is 6. Except the Sheep is always avalibile, unless(see below) I found a filler city to sometimes steal it. It also pushes the food deficiet more even.
It loses out on some production, trading a 1/5 plains Copper and a 1/3 grassland hill for a 0/4 Plains hill.

With it's only real reason for being moved being charing the Corn with Equius, which it might not be able to do, as it depends a lot on Eq's whipping cycle and when Captor is founded. So...I don't see the benefit.

Aradia Megido:

The current location gives 9 Grassland, 8 riverside. 1S Aradia has...10-11 Grassland with only 6-ish riverside?

Actually, for the plains hill boost and gaining a plains hill, that's not a bad trade. Aradia is liable to be 1S then.

The big thing is it is way too late in your settling order. If Jkioan sees the site, he has to rush it. If we get a 20T NAP, we have plenty of time to build defense if we see an Ancient Era attack coming, with bonus forewarning due to culture.

I can found 7 regardless of which dotmap I use, I just didn't have it marked cause I did not think of it. The only difference is it shares the Sheep over keeping them permanantly, which does not seem bad since once it's grown I can just work the cottages.

8 is simple fishing village. Can be founded either way. Shrug.

I would hold off dotmapping 3 until the north is better mapped out and would use Captor to grab the copper and thus erase it's high priority.

So odds are I'll move Aradia 1S and...that's about it.

oledavy Wrote:Pyramids would be a really solid build if you can net them (just go look at NoSpace's play in PBEM17 using representation powered specialists) made all the more powerful by your philosophical. You might build a forge and run an engineer in the HG city to pop out a GE to rush them.

The big issue is speed, I need to go Engi second GPP for that to work and I might not get HG in a reasonable timeframe for it to not be built(10 GPP for 300 is 30T, too long for Mids, so...)

Equius has three food resources to itself. Sharing the corn would help Captor get jump-started and could be shifted there on a permanent basis to give you two two food resource cities. That was the other half of my logic in moving 1W lol

btw, are you thinking about running mercantilism later this game?

I was actually thinking on that, because that would make Equius a great Globe Theater draftcamp: with so much food it could easily drafy Jans once per turn.

I'm still not really sure about the change in location for Captor for...some reason...I would guess my original one, but, I dunno, I just woke up.

Merchantalism is probably our preferred since State Property kills Corps. Does it still have the Corp bug, though?

So, turn is in this shindig.

Jkioan has finally actually converted to Buddhism...

USS Thunderchild passes the Artic Dawn Work Boat of Ellimoogle, but does not find Noble.

Right after that, I whip Feferi for the Settler. It'll regrow immedietely after and then the overflow should complete the Library. Archery still in EOT.

Eridan is also whipped for it's Work Boat. Once the other Clams is hooked up, it'll be an 0kay city.

Ari will start exploring towards Jkioan, while Tony explores north.

Speaking of Tony, here he is, revealing some more tiles.

I offically shifted Aradia Megido down 1S and added the two filler cities: I couldn't find fault with their place and so they are as seen in Davy's dotmap. I have named the coastal one Lalonde(Rose Lalonde's land has a good amount of water) and the other Maryam(Kanaya is generally a friend of Karkat).

Despite not working the Gold tile and being at 50% science, we are barely last in GNP!

We are also only 3 food out of first, despite having whipped away 3 pop this turn(and 2 more will be gone next turn!). I think our future prospects look very good right now. smile

Aside from both Workers going to farm the Corn...not much left.

EOT, Archery in, Work Boat and Settler finish. Next turn, I can whip Erodan and the turn after that put them on the Galley.

Aw yeah.

Also, post-EOT screenie...

Turn in...

SO CLOSE!

Right now, a city on the plains hill for the Corn + riverside grassland + hills looks like a solid city, with a bonus of forward-shielding Captor/Equius and only being attackable either across a river or on flatland.

Erodan whips it's Settler, Feferi's will be Galleyable the same turn Erodan's comes out for double Galley travel, Eridan's Work Boat has moved into place...

I'm going to do 1T of max gold to make MC a 12T tech to be sure delays do not occur, as well. If we lose the Colossus by 1T, bite me.

I think Ari will actually stick around Aradia until I get some defense into it. Talking with Jkioan makes me uncomfortable about the site.

Me and Jkioan now have a NAP until and including T83, with a clause saying not to settle any cities closer to them than me: But I made damn sure that Aradia Megido was okay to be in. Since it is, everything behind it should be, so I am free from that attack side for 20 turns, which is perfect.

This also means Ari can explore and not stay behind. I want two Archers or an Archer and a Spear or Archer and Axe and Spear or something there pretty damn soon, though.

I don't trust Jkioan not to make a move in desperation.
