Chat with DIM. Too tired to make heads or tails of it, I'm just trying not to ramble right now...

Quote:(9:17:45 PM) Krill: Hello smile
(9:17:49 PM) Krill: Krill here smile
(9:17:54 PM) DIM: greetings and well met smile
(9:17:59 PM) DIM: Ilios here
(9:18:22 PM) DIM: So, how is the view from within India's lands? wink
(9:18:31 PM) Krill: Interesting...
(9:18:50 PM) DIM: nice stone piles
(9:18:54 PM) Krill: lol smile
(9:19:17 PM) DIM: you healing in their lands?
(9:19:51 PM) Krill: No, just traversing to the east. I was going north, but there aren't alot of forests up there and there was a Lion
(9:20:13 PM) DIM: yeah, I can count three barb animal kills so far
(9:20:28 PM) DIM: meaning the animals won...
(9:20:31 PM) Krill: Just the one for me, although I have to fight a barb lion at the end of this turn...
(9:20:40 PM) Krill: what, really?
(9:20:44 PM) Krill: ouch
(9:20:56 PM) DIM: not our team thankfully
(9:21:43 PM) DIM: so who've you met so far? you're the third civ we've mey
(9:21:59 PM) Krill: Only regoarrarr and Dantski
(9:22:01 PM) DIM: and we know carthage isn't too far away as well
(9:22:06 PM) Krill: ah
(9:22:20 PM) Krill: Dantski is to your south west
(9:22:35 PM) DIM: southwest of our scout you mean?
(9:22:52 PM) Krill: yeah
(9:23:23 PM) DIM: you're west of india?
(9:23:33 PM) Krill: South, long way south
(9:23:51 PM) Krill: if your scout can survive long enough to reach me I'd be surprised, is just how far south I am smile
(9:24:12 PM) DIM: don't underestimate Hernan
(9:25:17 PM) Krill: So who is it youve met?
(9:25:35 PM) DIM: i guess he's about 40 tiles from our starting area
(9:26:10 PM) Krill: That's well done. I thought msot scouts would be dead by now truth be told
(9:27:23 PM) DIM: well he's woody I now, will increase his survival rate
(9:27:33 PM) DIM: you heading over to Ruff?
(9:27:43 PM) Krill: Hopefully
(9:27:55 PM) Krill: I hear he has a warrior around
(9:28:14 PM) Krill: I'd rather meet that than trudge towards his land at one tile a turn
(9:28:16 PM) DIM: I guess we'll be swinging that way as well
(9:28:32 PM) DIM: ETA of his unit?
(9:28:39 PM) Krill: No idea
(9:28:59 PM) Krill: I've been working nights the past few days, so I've not been able to get much done diplo wise
(9:30:11 PM) Krill: Go ahead smile
(9:30:16 PM) DIM: can I ask you something?
(9:30:29 PM) Krill: sure, you just did smile Ask me a second thing as well tongue
(9:30:47 PM) DIM: well i will
(9:30:58 PM) DIM: oh you were being sarcastic wink
(9:31:37 PM) DIM: are you doing C&D on Dantski?
(9:31:53 PM) Krill: No, I'll happily admit I don;t do any C&D
(9:32:02 PM) DIM: ok
(9:32:08 PM) Krill: Was there something you wanted to know though?
(9:32:09 PM) DIM: did you kill Lobo?
(9:32:19 PM) Krill: Yeah, I killed Lobo.
(9:32:29 PM) DIM: ah I thought it was Byz
(9:32:37 PM) DIM: worker first huh?
(9:32:44 PM) Krill: Yeah, not without it's risks
(9:33:17 PM) Krill: considering about 12 people went worker first only 1 death isn't that surprising, but it could have been more...
(9:33:23 PM) DIM: I think Dantski just founded his second city
(9:33:29 PM) Krill: Yeah, he did.
(9:33:41 PM) Krill: 2 turns ago, something like that
(9:34:01 PM) DIM: so that's worker and then right into chopped settler
(9:34:17 PM) Krill: yeah, worker, maybe 2
(9:35:09 PM) Krill: Mind if I ask a question or two?
(9:35:17 PM) DIM: go ahead
(9:35:34 PM) Krill: Who is it you've met?
(9:35:46 PM) DIM: Ottomans and India, and well, you
(9:35:56 PM) Krill: Ah, OK
(9:36:11 PM) Krill: do you know where the Ottomans are relative to India?
(9:36:23 PM) DIM: cousins i think
(9:36:33 PM) Krill: wink
(9:36:35 PM) DIM: lol nm
(9:37:59 PM) DIM: sec
(9:38:02 PM) Krill: np
(9:38:32 PM) Krill: I'd offer to do a map trade as well, but I fear you'd sink that option, and not without reason
(9:41:48 PM) DIM: sorry
(9:41:52 PM) Krill: np
(9:42:03 PM) DIM: they're SW of india
(9:42:27 PM) Krill: Thanks smile
(9:42:39 PM) DIM: you had another q?
(9:43:17 PM) Krill: Not really
(9:43:31 PM) Krill: Sorry, but I'm absolutely knackered atm
(9:43:39 PM) Krill: just done nights over the weekend
(9:43:51 PM) DIM: and now day shift?
(9:44:26 PM) Krill: nah, I only finished work 13 hours ago and now it's my day off
(9:44:38 PM) Krill: even though I need to go back to bed
(9:45:55 PM) DIM: map is toroidal right?
(9:45:59 PM) Krill: Yeah
(9:46:33 PM) Krill: if it isn;t toroidal it is way taller than it is wide, so the map script itself would have to be hacked, and I don;t think Sullla would waste time doing that
(9:47:02 PM) DIM: nope
(9:47:17 PM) DIM: ouch re upkeep costs
(9:47:25 PM) Krill: And this is emperor
(9:48:04 PM) DIM: i think some people are going to be mighty surprised once they start spamming settlers
(9:48:11 PM) Krill: Shhh
(9:48:13 PM) Krill: let them
(9:48:28 PM) Krill: it'll be entertaing to watch their economies fall to pieces smile
(9:49:46 PM) Krill: something for you to consider smile
(9:49:57 PM) DIM: in what way?
(9:50:46 PM) Krill: You figured out how much more expensive teh techs are in this game, compared to PB1 or PB2? And then compared the cost of expansion in the games?
(9:51:52 PM) DIM: yup
(9:52:32 PM) DIM: funny thing is, I think most people, when voting for the game difficulty
(9:53:07 PM) DIM: chose emperor as well because they didn't want seem like wimps smile
(9:53:41 PM) DIM: well, they'll find out soon enough
(9:53:57 PM) Krill: Evil
(9:54:57 PM) DIM: i'm actually not responsible for diplo
(9:55:12 PM) DIM: but our guy is abroad
(9:55:22 PM) Krill: Can I use that excuse as well please?
(9:55:34 PM) Krill: That would be super helpful at some opint
(9:55:35 PM) DIM: yeah man, i dont know how you do it
(9:55:40 PM) DIM: I'd have a hard time solo
(9:56:15 PM) DIM: bah you'd have some lackey play your turns
(9:56:33 PM) Krill: It's more work to give the orders than it is to play the turn IMO
(9:56:57 PM) DIM: yeah what was the deal in PB1, why did you stop playing?
(9:57:42 PM) Krill: I was back at uni, and the firewall stopped me from connecting to the game
(9:57:52 PM) DIM: ah
(9:57:59 PM) Krill: so I had to hand it to yaz
(9:58:08 PM) DIM: and then to exploit
(9:58:23 PM) DIM: anyway i didn't follow PB1 that much
(9:58:25 PM) Krill: and then at the same time he left I had to focus on a placement, so needed a permenant sub
(9:58:30 PM) DIM: nobody was really posting
(9:58:54 PM) Krill: Yeah, real loss in that, everyone needs to post or there isn't much point in this sort of setup
(9:59:18 PM) DIM: exploit doesn't even have a spoiler thread
(10:00:12 PM) DIM: say where was Lobo?
(10:00:22 PM) Krill: between me and regoarrarr
(10:00:41 PM) DIM: that's... interesting...
(10:01:34 PM) DIM: so you baptised a warrior Sergeant Colon yet?
(10:01:41 PM) Krill: Not yet
(10:01:54 PM) Krill: All of the warriors are getting named after deceased members of hte Watch
(10:02:10 PM) DIM: from Night Watch?
(10:02:15 PM) Krill: The workers will be the Important members of the Watch
(10:02:22 PM) Krill: Well, teh Watch series
(10:03:04 PM) DIM: I was actually considering naming a city Dunmanfestin, but I'll leave the honors to you
(10:03:17 PM) Krill: Well
(10:03:34 PM) Krill: provided my warrior doesn;t get eaten and I lose the settler, Dunmanifestin is getting settled next turn smile
(10:03:44 PM) DIM: lol
(10:04:25 PM) DIM: yeah our growth was stunted due to our fantastic starting techs...
(10:04:36 PM) Krill: Could have picked a "better" civ
(10:04:56 PM) DIM: oh well, my teammates wanted a synergy with Organised
(10:05:01 PM) DIM: i went along
(10:05:06 PM) Krill: Germany?
(10:05:09 PM) Krill: Japan?
(10:05:28 PM) DIM: well that's the problem
(10:05:55 PM) DIM: nobody picks those civs because thier UU and/or UB come so late
(10:06:19 PM) Krill: Hey, I almost picked Japan...
(10:06:33 PM) DIM: we should have a Pitboss game with 2-3 continents, only reachable after Astronomy
(10:07:14 PM) DIM: makes Holland, Portugal etc viable
(10:07:28 PM) DIM: the same civs get picked all the time
(10:11:28 PM) DIM: i'm currently advising Ottomans where to found their second city...
(10:12:03 PM) Krill: Well, if you want a hand in that, just ask...
(10:12:12 PM) Krill: Towards teh indians is always good though
(10:13:24 PM) DIM: why?
(10:13:47 PM) Krill: Away from you, away from me...
(10:14:20 PM) DIM: bah, enough room for a first ring for each civ methinks
(10:14:30 PM) Krill: hopefully
(10:15:06 PM) Krill: OTOH, Cre versus henge..
(10:15:20 PM) DIM: CRE wins
(10:15:58 PM) Krill: Yeah, but it gets bloody
(10:16:25 PM) DIM: bloody can be good
(10:17:03 PM) Krill: Indeed
(10:17:09 PM) Krill: blood makes the grass grow
(10:17:20 PM) DIM: makes it red too
(10:17:29 PM) Krill: more poignant pictures

(10:21:56 PM) Krill: Well, if you want to play match maker...do they have a scout up near regoarrarr?
(10:22:17 PM) DIM: let's say they're a bit scout light at the moment...
(10:22:34 PM) Krill: I kinda no the feeling
(10:22:37 PM) Krill: *know

I have to run.

Good point. It's not that spoilerish, but better safe than sorry.

Out of curiosity: Is this your usual diplomatic style or is this friendliness part of your big game plan (depending on others to spread your religions)?

Anyway, I'm anxious to see your next screenshot smile

Cuddy lives at 1.1 health. Dunmanifestin settled, research put back to Polytheism, road started to connect DM to AM, complete next turn, borders pop at DM either next turn (t37) or t38.

Peace offered to DJciv.

Screenshots to follow, just need to nip out for a few hours to work...but sufficed to say, that there are 2 new lions on the border of DM eek

You should be happy that they are lions and not warriors, at least they will stay outside you borders

So, here is my new city. I'm not sure, but I think I am the second to plant a second city, after Mutski. Luckily those lions weren't any closer...

Here you can see Gaskin. The Ottomans are to his SE, but I don't want to send him down there; I can send the warrior I'm building in DM to the NE to meet them just as quickly.

And here are the demographics. I'm kinda sucking at GNP and MFG, but the GNP should increase by 2 once I get the trade route, which gets me a bonus beaker as I'll have base 15 beakers at 100%. the MFG just plain sucks, which shows many people are working mines. Well, nothing I can really do about that right now, although te second worker should help increase my MFG, but not to the levels of the first place teams...

Very much so. One of the things that I've always hated about higher level barbs is that it constricts your tech path quite severely; you have to either luck out on a strat resource, or you have to get Archery. Combined with the high tech costs it ruins the ancient era strategy IMO.

One of the things I like in Civ 5 would be the removal of the difficult setting in the Custom games start up, so everything can be set manually. Tech costs, maintenance costs, barb starting level...make multiple settings available for each, instead of lumping them all under the difficulty setting.

Obviously, for the quick game keep the current difficulty set up, but give more options to those players that want to use them.
