I agree with Sullla - I would think this is stupid if it happened 4 months ago, but this is a good ending to quite the crazy game. If this does work out - it's a well-earned win for regoarrar.

Is this victory any less ridiculous than one achieved by sweeping the rug out under one player by denying them techs they were expecting to receive, and then nuking them back into the stone age when they can't do anything to counter? Or winning by running the culture slider for a few dozen turns until your cities become Legendary?
Yes, because it relies on other player deciding you are a more worthy victor than anyone else. In which case, the lurkers can decide which player deserved to win just as much as the players - the true diplo victory is getting the lurkers and players to think you were the best player in the game.
Quote:While I also dislike the Apostolic Palace, it's been around for centuries in this game - more than long enough for teams to take appropriate counter measures to shield themselves. (The true AP cheese win is landing the first vote taken, when no one else even has a chance to counter-spread the AP religion.) And finally, if regoarrarr can convince 4 out of the 8 teams in this game to vote for him, well deserved win IMO. I think he needs sunrise, Elkad, and Alex to all support him - this isn't one of those "grab your vassal's vote and that's it" elections.
Would be different IMO if it was all of the original players - would Shady and ZPV have voted for regoarrarr after their past experiences in the game? I seriously doubt that, in which case no victory. The only reason this victory is even possible is because Shady got replaced at the last minute, and Persia changed sides, and IMO, that spoils the game.

I can completely understand where this is coming from, but the nature of how many replacement players we've had sort of "spoiled" it already. The only major players left who were originals were regoarrar, Broker, and Dreylin, and at that point you might as well end it really. Most importantly though, everyone in the game seems like they're ready for it to be over.

Hm. Broker thinks he's found an out. So, what might that be?
Easiest option: Invalidate the election by giving away his source of Hinduism/letting the city get captured by one of his friends? He's got all of...this turn...to make it happen.
EDIT: And, giving away his source is what he's going to do.

I think it's ironic that Broker's justification for it "well cheese gets cheese" when he's trying to do the same thing with the U.N. I don't see how it's any different really.

The difference is that Broker's "team" would be able to beat Rego's. All it does is speed up the end.
Lol, Rego wanted to win coolly. So, he did not tell us that he would win. I can not wait to see his reaction when notices he loses.
If Broker was wrong or Munro does not accpect the city that would also be funny.
I also like how Broker's misplay of not shielding himself from the AP helped him. Rego, and everyone else who did not like Broker, thought if worst came to worst they could just take the AP win.

Aw, I was hoping to see Rego pull that off; would have been pretty triumphant, after several turns of getting helplessly nuked.
Oh well, perhaps now some of the vets from this game can move on to PBEM4; that game looks like it's going to be really fun to lurk once it gets running

Broker's not pushed the UN win: Munro raised it as a way of shortcutting to victory should (AP notwithstanding) most players think Broker would claim a culture win.

The same can be said with the replacement of dsplaisted and Mali becoming a close friend of Broker. Besides the threat to quit the game if Mali switches side to rego was extremly lame from Broker.

at that point in time, I think dsp had already sided with Broker against regoarrarr, TT just continued the same diplomatic line. Could be wrong, wasn't around much at that time and speed read the whole section.
