You're right there, Charriu
The first bullet point we do similarly (1st round timer is ten days, which allows people to "sandbox" extensively what their best starting strategy might be).
Choosing leaders & Civs is something we - quite literally - have never done, I believe (I only started following PBs around nine years ago and haven't followed them all, but still am pretty confident of the correctness of my statement. Huge difference, of course. And it also explains to me that cryptic "why everybody goes for FIN" statement sd made. Over at Civforum that is not something you "go" (choose) for, but something you either get or you don't.
I take it that War Elephants are among those items banned, for example? Is there a comprehensive version of that list of banned elements you mentioned?

There never was a comprehensive list, but here are some elements that were often found on ban lists:
- AP resolutions
- blockades
- active espionage (espionage is enabled in settings but no spies can be built; no limits on Great Spies)
- nukes
- War Elephants
- city and unit gifting (including city transfer as a part of a peace treaty)
- Great Lighthouse
- Statue of Zeus
- Corporations.
- Sometimes certain leaders or traits (most of the time FIN)

One other major factor that shaped our two communities are things like unit or city gifting. I get it that both communities noticed the un-fun and unfair part in those elements. But it's interesting how both dealt with them. Here at RB those elements were banned for the most part due to the fallout of some games especially the diplo games. Civforum on the other hand developed the system of arbiters, which is really interesting. It's like we both discovered a new culture and are now studying curiously how the other culture works.
Also sorry to SD for hijacking your thread.

Another sorry from me as well, SD! I posted my reply to Charriu's list in the Lurker Thread (just like I did with the explanations of the two things I mentioned here earlier).

"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

At least one of your small trades went very bad for you. The others were negative trades as well. My guess is that you would have fared better just moving in with everything. Although, admittedly the catapults he lost were less effective than they would have been attacking the big stack.

Vikings have signaled wanting to be friends(ly) by giving me Delhi and Vakhusndfiuhsaidfng as well. Is this an appeasement, a bribe, or.... something else? Either way considering liberalism has fallen and im having trouble teching Metal Casting of all things... its going to be rough. The Land/pop leader is my next door neighbor and id have to hope that the vikings attack him so i can eat some of Plemo as well. Current goal is Metal casting for forges, Calendar for extra happy/ect, and then probably slowly make my way to.... idk. Rifles? Knights are alot worse when everyone is running around with huge stacks of un-nerfed WE's. So might as well skip going for them here.
I think there is a decent chance i survive to the end of this pitboss at this point, unless Plemo and Flunky both attack at the same time. I can hold off Plemo if i have the advanced warning of his stacks moving my way, and Flunky could only really just stretch my defenses thin. Should be F.U.N

Im betting the Zulu in Africa, or the Vikings win this game. Side possibility of Flunky as well.
I asked everyone for their maps that i could so hopefully everything is updated next turn. Coco has a ton of cities, but im not seeing him or hardly anyone catching upto people that have ASTRO and LIBERALISM... Gah.
