Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

CFC has already mapped out all of our cities. If you guys wanted to keep map info from getting out there to other civs, it's way too late now. I've always believed that I can do more with map info than the teams on the other side, so I favor as much map trading and sharing as possible.

Also, if you want to get anything regarding a fair trade, better to do it now than to wait a few more turns when we will likely land Philosophy/Paper/Education/Liberalism/Nationalism and jump about 150 points ahead on the scoreboard. Now is definitely a good time to talk to CivPlayers and lock them into more turns of peace for the same reason.

I'm against a map trade because of the EP issue. Even if they get it eventually why let them have that info sooner. We don't even know for sure go has trade maps with who. Plus if we trade maps we guarantee visibility on all out cities. I don't think CFC has perfect knowledge of our empire.

EDIT: autocorrect changed "because" to "excuse" which reversed my intention. Corrected now

Another thing in favour of map trading is that it's one of the elements that cost relatively little, but that can be used to build trust.

Right now we don't have a firm ally anywhere. WPC is too weak and hardly dependable, and the Spanish are even more so. I think there is quite a bit of mutual mistrust between us and CFC, and that they haven't answered our marble question is a strike against them, especially given the favours we gave them. CivPlayers are hard on diplo. We are committed against the Germans, and CivFr is our main rival.

So anything we can do to get closer relations with Apolyton is a good thing.

Don't forget that we (and others) can build spies to scout out opponents at will, the obvious problem being diplomatic fallout. Personally, I'm in favor of trading map info. I think we gain more than we lose at this point. Later, if they want to do something with that map information, they'll have to hack through our draft army.

Yeah I'm in favor of doing the map trade, both because we can make more use of the info and because CFC already has our info.

Consensus seems to be in favor of the map swap, so I sent the draft.

Some things to consider before we hit Liberalism:

(March 27th, 2013, 01:03)Ceiliazul Wrote: -Civplayers: NAP extension (and if it goes well, tighten the deal re: unit gifting, spies, allowing armies thru)
-UnversCiv: something, *anything*, toward closer relations. Preferably at least OB before we land the Lighthouse (6t 2t)
-WPC: continue to discuss t150 plans, keep the phone lines open.

We also need to at least float NAPs with the non-border teams. We're getting to that stage where dogpile talks gain steam or fizzle. If we can lock, say, Apolyton into an NAP, that'd help a lot.

Apolyton NAP is done goodjob, and we'll keep working with the Germans for marble.

Draft to CivPlayers:

Draft to CivPlayers Wrote:Decebal,

Hey! Been awhile since we last chatted, wanted to check in and see how things are going. We've now completed our full set of contacts, so if there's anyone you would like help meeting, let me know and I can hook you up with directions. smile

We're on T124 right now, so the guaranteed portion of our NAP is set to expire pretty soon on T130. I know it will become a rolling NAP subject to 10T cancellation at that point, but do you guys have any interest in extending the guaranteed portion of the NAP?

Thanks,
scooter - Team RB

Couple comments:
1) By the time we send this it may very well be T125, so yes I'll change that if need be
2) We need to keep in mind here they don't like long extensions. I think a reasonable final target for an extension is through T150. Also keep in mind that with these guys, they like the cooldown + rolling NAPs, so a T150 NAP just means they cannot declare war any earlier than T160.
3) I don't want to present them with a number up front. Last time he noted in chat that we seemed pushy. I think he just is lousy at communicating by diplo, but either way we need to cater to them a little better than last time. So I'm keeping this concise so that hopefully we can get a "yeah what do you have in mind?" back from them rather than trying to immediately strong-arm them into whatever target date we want.

Thoughts?

Love it. :-)

Nice crosspost too, ha.

Hah, yeah crossposted. I used that post of yours to update our Current Deals post - it is the second post in the Diplo Tracker thread (http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=5589).

UCiv has now ignored 4 straight emails from us, but I think it's worth checking in with them again. A playful poke and another stab at OB/NAP.
