I'll take the fishy one if it fits!
On the topic of 2nd/3rd generation heirs, I usually just keep my heir at court (typically on the council) if the current ruler is young so that I can try and avoid the AI screwing up the grandchildren.
Save, re-linked: Save, Mardoq II
Here is the chronicle of the reign of the Great Sultan Mashriq, First of His Name, recorded by his personal historian and steward, Jaffar ibn Talib. Upon taking the Sultanate after the death of his father, [[ILLEGIBLE]], Mashriq showed his personality as a man of great compassion, and also of great tyranny. His first wife, Ilknur Kemalid of Anatolia, was a great lady in her own right, although sadly the chronicle of her life was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1196 that forced Sultan [[ILLEGIBLE]] to rebuild much of Granada. The early years of Sultan Mashriq the Great's reign were mostly quiet, especially during the Sultan's Hajj to Holy Mecca. OOC: Now, the 'proud' option also gives you ambitious. It's actually worth considering now. Word reached our court of the great Jihad in the East against the infidels who ruled Jaffa, although when I produced a map to show how much of the Holy Land was still in the hands of the infidels, there was much mockery of the insignificance of the victory, and even J'Kain was confused about why such a small war was worthy of the name "Jihad." A few weeks later, I brought news to the Sultan that his brother and heir, J'Kain, was ill from consumption. The Sultan merely responded with "I will pray that he has a worthy place in Paradise. Do not send him a physician." A few years later, including a bout with consumption that the physician was able to heal, the Sultan attempted to move against J'Kain, who had left our glorious court. With the births of Mardoq, heir to Andalusia, Jalilah, Khunehirid, and Pamo'shirah, though, J'Kain was never a threat to inherit Andalusia. OOC: The calligraphy is missing a section describing the appearance of Mardoq, unlike his three siblings below.
The reign of a Great Sultan such as Mashriq is not one merely for court maneuverings, though. A few minor wars in Andalusia expanded the realm, and then we prepared for war against the minor Duchy of Toulouse, who had no allies or support of their own. Even a late intervention by the Kaiser was not able to save them from the powerful might of Sultan Mashriq.
Peace returned for a few years, and then Mashriq set out on his grand campaign for the entirety of Aquitaine. The war proceeded well, and France was losing men and holdfasts. The Kaiser returned, though, demanding a blood price if he was not going to butcher our men in the fields, and unfortunately Sultan Mashriq ordered that a peace with the Romans be negotiated. The recent conquest of Toulouse was in vain. Months of campaigning became years. Then, a rider in the night arrived at Granada with ill news: Sultan Mashriq, First of His Name, was slain in battle. Sultan Mardoq, the Second of His Name, was crowned the next, and his reign is detailed [[OOC: The scroll has deteriorated at this point, and is now illegible]] OOC: Aquitaine should still be conquerable, although it's going to take some time. Don't be afraid to disband-and-resummon our troops, although be sure you don't disband our mercenary units at the same time, we have access to so few of them.
Anybody else notice the expansion announcement today?

Travelling on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.
It takes a bit longer to get oriented with 33 vassals. I'm trying to figure out how to get some of them to like the current ruler - i think the only ones with a positive attitude are the Content ones. I can release one from jail, that's +10 all around (and everyone in jail already likes me). There arent too many "demands X territory" but one i did notice like that is Emir so-and-so wants Cordoba. I think there's a mosque in Mallorca i can transfer vassalage to as well.
I also found three of our vassals are at -30 for "wrong government type". Looks like that is from them having the title of Wali or Emir but only a city as their holding. So i will need to build castles, or just revoke titles. And yes, i'm posting here because any advise will be helpful! ![]()
