[SPOILERS] PB20 Lurker Thread of Perfect Hindsight

Quote:That said, I don't think there's any amount that would convince me to sell a GP to the game's leader at this stage of the game.

Would you really care about the game leader in Haram's position? I don't think I would if it helped me survive.

Well, he did get bullied by Mack, right?

Well, what was the value of that Great Scientist to dtay? I'd argue the value was precisely whatever I was willing to pay for it because he had no way of safely getting it to anyone else and there was nothing meaningful he could do for it. Could I have paid more to be nice? Maybe, but I was far from the game leader myself so doing dtay a solid really wasn't all that logical.

The city captures were an unrelated issue.

That's fair. In PB16 I was far enough off the lead that I didn't mind doing plenty of business with the leader to help me with own goals. Most games I've played I've been enough in the conversation to care about that, though.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

I contest that I even got a smile out of that lol

Concur with Gaspar, I wasn't exactly in a position to negotiate.

Frankly, from a purely "what maximizes power of my civ" I would have taken something nonsensically low, like 100g or something. It turns out if your teching is permanently off, a great scientist can't exactly do much... I think the only actual uses I had for it woudl be scouting or just distracting an opponent who might instinctively jump at a chance to kill a Great Person. So the price could end up comically low given I didn't have any other non-hostile neighbor to negotiate with (assuming for a second negotiation is remotely feasible in no-diplo).

More realistically since no one's a robot, at some point I would consider the gold amount to be too much of an insult and just refuse any deal, since the gain is small in any case.

But generically, I do think something in the range of 1500 gold is a decent guess at the floor for the price of a great person, since the most obvious convertible-to-gold use of them is bulbing stuff which comes in around there. But then obviously if the owner has a specific purpose in mind (golden age, artist bomb, etc) they could very well value it more (seems true in this case).

I'd say the base value of a GP is 1000g. A scientist gives you 1500 beakers, yes, but 1500b is always worth less than 1500g, and also you don't get multipliers on a bulb. Buying a GP from someone else does mean that your next GP isn't more expensive, so I'd bump it up a bit from 1000g, but you're also giving the gold to another player which may be a net good or bad thing as well.

FWIW dtay I thought that you could have turned tech on and gotten to Guilds and upgraded some of your HAs to knights. But you probably didn't expect to survive as long as you did.

Yeah that's part of it, but also in the 3 city period (probably about half of my dying-existence) I had basically worthless GNP. Like, by the very very end I had about 0gpt on 0% slider b/c of military maintenance.

Well you were giving like 15 gpt to TBS. neenerneener Also, I thought you could have grown your cities back some.

I understand wanting to end the game if the players aren't having fun anymore, but I think this should be recorded in the annals of history as a draw between Seven and Mack.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Seven said there was a spaceship launch - was it his or Mackoti's?
