Dinking around in a sandbox. I notice that with this capital, growth will be insanely fast. And compared to what I'm used to, production isn't slow either. I'm currently playing around with:
Production: Worker --> Warrior -- Partial warrior (grow to 3) -- worker -- finish warrior
Research: AH-->Mining --> BW -->?
Worker irrigates corn, then on to the cow, then on to sheep.
At this point, it gets a little trickier without map info, but it takes me to T19. I assume I'll then use one worker to chop/whip out a pair of settlers and a 3rd worker while using the other worker to get the first new city started up.
That sort of plan gets me to 3 cities by around T30, with 3 workers and 3 warriors. You know what they say about the best laid plans. And I know this is a pretty heavy farmers gambit for the first 30 turns, but that's my T1 plan to get to T30. We'll see how it survives contact...
... with the enemy.

Screenshots, just for fun:
This is a pretty cool part of PBEMs. The novelty of this will wear off eventually, but being told "Mr. Nice Guy, it's your turn!" is pretty fun!
So that coast isn't terribly exciting, yet. Pigs is great, wine is okay, whales is okay, but the overall spot is just okay. For now.
The updated map at the EOT after Paris expanded its borders. Could do crabs + gold or crabs + ivory. Could do a coastal city to claim spices. Lots of choices. I think so far the south is the most interesting part of the map, so I'll backtrack with my warrior and spend the next 6 turns heading to the spiced area. I'll try and defog the first two tiles or so of my southern fog, and will try to block off some amount of land with my first two settlers based on whatever map info I can get in the next 10-15 turns.
What do you think of my T1 plans? Good, bad, ugly?

Time to start thinking about the enemy. We'll start with Commodore, Darius (Fin/Org) of HRE (Mysticism/Hunting; Landskencht; Rathaus)
Commodore was certainly going for synergy here. I just wonder if that synergy is a wise choice given the game settings. Small map and prince difficulty both make organised and the rathuaus less powerful than normal. The Landsknecht? Bleh. Mysticism? No thanks. Hunting? Definitely no thanks. He is financial, and that's great, but I wouldn't have taken the rest given the game we're playing.
I would have to respectfully rate this as the least threatening team on the board.

Continuing in the enemy... Ranamar and Lewwyn of Bismarck (EXP/IND) of Mali (Mints; Skirmishers; Mining/The Wheel).
I've never played with Ranamar, but I know Lewwyn from lurking other games and playing werewolf with him. He tends to be aggressive, but not always for the right reasons (werewolf and PBEM14 are good examples).
This is a pretty solid leader choice. Industrious forges are fun, but industrious mints are even better. Add a good UU, and Mali is a solid choice. Bismarck is a great choice too.
I look forward to seeing how they leverage these choices. And I look forward to beating them at it!

I've played around a little more with my sandbox. I was kind of hoping we'd get extra turns in this weekend because of the US holiday, but no such luck so far. Oh well, my sandbox now has the entire known world, not just my BFC. It took less time to set that up than I expected. Anyway, I think I really do like my plan as stated, at least up to T18-19. That's the point at which I have to decide how aggressively I want to expand, and where I want to expand to. That's also when BW finishes. So by that point I will know a good bit about my SW. I will also know if I have copper or horses to settle. And I will know if I want to go pottery, BW, or something else next. And I actually wind up with 5 warriors by T30 in this scenario. Not bad for 3 cities running a farmer's gambit.
The three things I have to watch for are maximizing my early whips at Paris, securing some kind of happy resource, and giving myself something to build once the initial REX is over. The first two keys are because Paris is so food abundant. In my current sandbox at T32, Paris has given cows to a neighbor city and is still growing like a weed - at +8 food it doesn't take long to go from size 2 to 3 to 4 to 5, even without a granary. As for what to build, I'm currently thinking either a military if I need to (rather not at such an early phase), a library for an early Academy (might be a good idea with such a high-food capital), or the Pyramids to leverage the spiritual trait I picked.
We'll see, though. I probably have 2 weeks before it gets to be time to make those kinds of decisions.

Turn came around to me and I moved my warrior, hit end turn, and sent it back out. Not much to say at this point. I have my moves figured out for the next little while, just need to move my warrior and see what happens.

Turn came back around. Not bad to get through the whole order in 6 hours. Maybe another turn tonight? No real changes. Since the last screenshot I've moved the warrior 2S onto the grass hill and revealed two coastal tiles in the SW. Next 2-3 turns I will learn a little more.

Might be too late but I would check the gold site soon. gold + crab is a nice thing.

I think my first warrior produced will be beelining to that area, while my original warrior moves in a generally counter-clockwise pattern through the fog outside my capital. This way by the time I'm planning on where to send a settler group I will have at least good information on the four corners.
At this point, we have the pig site, the gold site, the FP+spice site, and the ivory site. None yet jumps out as an obvious #1 or #2 settlement, but I hope that that will change once I have them defogged better.

I guess a lot will depend on where our [strike]enemies[/strike] neighbours are. But gold is such a nice boost to early research .
