Turn 10

Meet John Nance Garner, 32nd Vice President of the United States

Roosevelt asked for cows to be pastured, so like any good vice president he's off doing the leg-work.

How do you switch the camera to this position?

Flying Camera!

In order to use it you have to go to your CivilizationIV.ini file and look for the line that says

Code:
; Allow Camera Flying
AllowFlying = 0

Change that value to 1 and then you can use it within Civ.

Once you're in the game, hit Ctrl + Alt + F to enable Flying camera mode.

We got another turn in today thumbsup

Not much happening for Turn 11. In demographics I can see Rego & Yuris have both finished their pasture [strike]scout[/strike]. Edit: Now that's a weird typo! I think they're both going worker, worker or worker, settler. Gaspar could be doing that too but he's waiting on AH to finish before he can pasture the cow. So what's his worker doing? I'd guess he's one of the people who settled SE and is camping the fur while he waits.

You know, for all the grief I gave myself about not settling SE, settling in place does promote my civ's strength: better naval movement. Everyone who settled SE has to move ships an extra tile upon leaving the capital.

I think FDR's cabinet is a better source of names for workers than his vice presidents. And Truman deserves better than that of course. wink

Too true! And I plan on using the cabinet members; I just thought it would be better to do the vice presidents (he had three!) as workers first. Or maybe I should go with cabinet + VPs as they were appointed chronologically. Oooh, I like; that will get a good mix of people and positions.

Lots of score changes for Turn 12

[SIZE="1"]From first to last...[/SIZE]

I didn't capture the demographics changes, but after pouring over all of it I determined that:
  • Sian researched Animal Husbandry
  • Yuris researched Fishing --
  • Gaspommodore researched Animal Husbandry
  • Regoarrarr teched Fishing, built a warrior, and grew to size 2

I'm not 100% sure on the tech. I mean, rego could have researched Hunting and been building what exactly while he grew? No, Fishing + Warrior + growth makes more sense.

And it makes me start to wonder if I need to escalate my work boat at the expense of my 2nd city. Let's see... if i swap to a work boat now I will grow to size 2 in 5 turns, and end up delaying the settler by 4 turns. I'll run some tests and see if I can swap to a work boat next turn and still have a settler + navigation galley ready to go by T38. Napkin math tells me I get city #2 founded on T26 instead of T23, and Settler + Work Boat + Worker all get done 2 turns earlier in the capital. I am definitely going to look into this today. If it gets galley + settler out earlier then I will do it.

The south is now de-fogged. Tundra, tundra deer, crabs - there's enough to make a decent city actually. There's one more corner of the island I need to visit, one last possible piece of fog I can uncover, then I'll give a full-island screenshot.

Turn 13

Turn came around quickly and I decided not to switch. If I switch to a work boat now I'll get city #2 up 4 turns later, and city #3 up 1 turn earlier, but will have less overall hammers if I want to get city #3 up earlier.

I just have to hope this doesn't cost me circumnavigation.

Let's peek at the turn 13 demos:

GNP
Rival best of 22 is odd. Sian has been rival best all game because of his Creative Trait, but there is no way he can be at 22 GNP. 4 for Culture, 4 for Espionage, so he would be getting 14 beakers. The only ways he can be at 14 beakers is if
  • he was at 9 commerce and researching a tech where he had two pre-reqs
  • he was at 11 commerce researching a tech with one pre-req
  • or he was at 13 commerce researching a tech with no pre-reqs
He's only at pop 1 and I don't have him down has researching fishing yet, so he can't have more than 10 commerce. And he has no techs available that have 2 pre-reqs he's already researched. So the Rival Best can't be Sian.

Instead I think it's regoarrarr teching Pottery. He picked up Fishing last turn, so that means he has all three pre-reqs for Pottery, so he's getting a 1.4 multiplier. I'm guessing he has 11 commerce with his extra pop - working the pastured cow and a flood plains that he is probably putting a farm on right now. And 11 commerce translates to 16 beakers for a tech with 2 pre-reqs. 16 beakers + 4 EP + 2 culture = 22 GNP

Rival Worst of 19 also means that Yuris & Gaspamodore have to be teching something with a pre-req. Otherwise one of them would be at 17 GNP. Gaspar/Commodore could be doing Bronze Working or Sailing. If it was a land game I'd say BW in a heartbeat but here I think Sailing is more likely. Yuris could be doing Sailing or a Religion. Since Yuris just teched Fishing I bet he's going Sailing; otherwise why delay the religion?

Average of 20 also means Sian needs to be researching something with a pre-req. 19 + 19 + 22 = 60, so Sian can't have 19 GNP otherwise the average would be 19.75 and show as 19 on the demographics. But what second tier tech could he be going for? My C&D says he has Ag, Hunting, AH, and Mysticism. So unless he wants a superfast library I think he's going for a religion.

Edit: I guess Sian could have camped the furs and be working those... that would give him 13 commerce... but why would he? Oh wait, this actually makes sense with the crop yield. Lowest person has a crop of 3, so they're working a 1 food tile somewhere. Man, I hope this isn't what he's doing for his sake. If this is true then rego may be going Sailing instead of Pottery.
