[SPOILERS] - If you were a shape, what shape would you be? Mapmakers Thread

I'm going to have to ask someones help making this map. Some stuff has gone down at work that has meant that I am working silly hours at the moment.

I can send the Wb file to someone later on or I guess you can start your own map. I just don't have the time to give this the proper attention it deserves... actually, I don't really have the time to do it at all.... rolleye

Well thats unfortunate... Perhaps you could just post what you have and either someone can take up the full time reins or everyone can help and do little bits?

I'm not going to throw my name in after my last attempt but small edits to help out I could do.

I'd be willing to give this a shot, if there's no one out there excited to do it themselves. (I seem to recall Amelia wanted a go at mapmaking?) If there is someone else strongly interested, I'll stick with criticizing wink. But I want to see this game start before the players wander off, and I have some time this week.

Whether I stick with what you've got or start over, SL, probably depends entirely on how much you've gotten done so far smile.

Well, I have gotten quite far with it but not far enough that you can just edit a few things and it is done. I'd quite like to finish it, maybe for another game when I have more time so perhaps you can do your own?

I can probably manage something fair from scratch. It'll be a whole new concept, of course.

With no one else speaking up in the last 14 hours, I suppose the ball's in my court, so I will start tonight. Did you happen to collect their desired settings somewhere handy, or do I need to read the setup thread again?

I'm thinking for 6, I will do a Large Inland Sea, and move all the civs' starting positions toward the sea. There's not quite as much early interaction with a map like that as there is with yours, but then they didn't really ask for early interaction either. Unless some lurker has a suggestion for a script that would be more fun?

I like the results of Inland Sea, though - even spacing, similar terrain for everyone, both naval and land warfare possible, lots of grassland and rivers, and not too boring looking.

Mardoc, you have time to make a map from scratch, but no time for a nice little blitz in pbem 16... nono

I wanted to have a go at it, but i won't be free to make one for the next 48 hours. So it won't be me.

I am hoping to have it finished by then, yes. I hope you'll at least swing by and criticize.

Maybe you can volunteer to mapmake for the RP game that seems nearly off the ground?

Ok, I'm ready for my first round of criticism!

Overall idea of the map - Large, Inland Sea. Mostly unedited, but anything egregious needs to be adjusted. They asked for a fairly straightforward map, so that's what I tried to provide.

I've put each civ near but not on the coast, with a capital site that should be substantially identical to the others - Plains hill start, rivers, gold, incense, iron, cows, horses, and deer, plus a mix of grass, plains, forests and hills. There's a few variations on the rivers because those are a pain to draw wink. I tried to make the capitals strong enough to outweigh any imbalances in the surroundings smile.

Each civ has copper, but it's at the outer edge of the map, about 10 tiles from their starting positions.

All the explorable dungeons, plus Ygg, Dragon Bones, Remnants, and Letum Frigus, are on small islands in the central sea. It's a nice bonus for anyone who goes sailing, but sailing isn't necessary.

I forgot to turn off lairs, so I went through and hand deleted all I could find. If you find any (or any remaining goblins), I'd really really like to know.

So...what did I do wrong? What major imbalances remain? I've got a lunch break and a couple hours tomorrow evening to fix whatever errors you guys can find.
