Made the gamble to settle in place, yay corn #2.
[Spoilers] BRickAstley & Mist, Suleiman the Magnificent of Sumeria

Ah man. What did I get myself into Let's see, it's turn 73 and our unit list shows One worker. One. Worker. T73. Brick, I told you this on chat already, but it bears repeating : ******* What else, bordering Dazed through a choke, he's low power and we have archers, so all is well until he starts boating us. Uhm, can we float ships? Nope. Can we fish? Nope. So why are we teching IW again? Tentative tech plan : Fishing -> Sailing -> Construction -> CoL 5 cities, that's nice. But Shipwreck is placed horrible, needs years of worker labour and doesn't have much future. This city should be at the copper. We're probably too late to land TGL now, shame, we could have much mileage of it here. I juggled some tiles on cities and pressed enter. Let's see what can we get out of this.
Let's do a bigger set of updates, I need to organize my thoughts
Events Log Hinduism, Buddhism, Stonehenge, Oracle and Mids are taken already. Dazed/Scooter have mids and are in representation, which puts them lightyears ahead. TGL is still on the table, but we're Sailing/Masonry away from it and we lack a high production city that could chop/whip/hammer it out in any reasonable time. We can probably also forget about Colossus. Judaism is still open though, and this might be a high priority target right now. We have absolutely no happy sources, we're hurting for culture and OR could make the whips ( which is probably the only thing we can do good at the moment ) better. It's also on the way to Monarchy and HR. I don't think we can go forward here without HR. Cities This is at 100% science, and it hurts my soul Two of those are very good if underdeveloped, one should have never been planted, one should not have happened without worker support and one should be planted in a different location. Ghost City as a capital is fine - river, two corns, forested ph to push IMP settlers. But the fact that it has no grown cottages this late is a crime against civ As is the fact it still has 12 forests in BFC to chop. If you did not forget that workers exist as an unit, you could probably land 'mids here instead of Dazed. Abandoned Shack is also ok - can share a corn with capital, has it's own pigs and a cottage to work. Needs one more improved tile to work on while at happy cap and recently whipped. Sheeple should have never happened without a worker force and archer garrison Shipwreck is a crime against humanity. AccidentalMove is not bad, but you funded it a *very slow* start
Finances
Break-even at 50%, doing 14bpt. Tragic. And it'll tank some more as I settle for copper. This is lack of workers, translating into lack of cottages, compounded by lack of happy to work specialists. Not that we know Writing to actually have any specialists to work. The copper city will be, more, it has to be absolutely last settlement this side of Currency. Techs All we know right now. Pretty poor. I'm mostly convinced, that Monotheism should be the target right now. The question is, do I want to do it with, or without libraries. Probably with, if only because I'm running out of stuff I can regrow on between whip cycles. Units Slightly better, but still bad, I can probably squeeze out a worker on average every 2t now that I have some present that can actually chop things. I'd say I need about half a dozen more at least. My defence relies on Dazed running full farmer mode, some archers to knock back barbs and a lot of prayer. It's still going to be about 20 turns before I get copper connected to cities that will be able to do stuff with it.
Well, t100 nearly here, let's see how are we doing. And why dreadfully
The big news is that I actually have a tech rate now - 25bpt at 40% breakeven Which comes at the back of my capital getting a library and running two scientists. GSci due in 5t, I'll probably settle it since I'm struggling for tech and that will up it by 30% or thereabouts. No point for academy right now, I don't need Alphabet and Golden Age would just be a waste of time. My happy cap everywhere is still laughably low, and I have no hope for a religion. So yes, I'm probably sentenced to life with HR, as soon as I get it and will be able to afford the garrisons. Techwise
Got GSci this turn. It could apparently bulb maths, so I bulbed maths - expensive ( relatively to my tech rate ), very useful and I still have crapload of wood to chop. Next GSci in 10 turns.
Just want to say that I'm reading your posts.

Sigh, tried to make Brick update this thread, but he's not biting. Curse his lovely wife and her tempting Martinis
We're screwed. I kind of hoped that adopting/spreading hindu and generally trying to be non-threatening will make scooter leave us alone, but no such luck. So there has been plenty of archers/vultures whipped all around, with some walls added into the mix. Thus far lost a fairly unimportant, freshly planted island city and the horrible monstrosity in the south I'm glad to see burned After that, pretty standoffish, we have no answer to zerkers in open field, they don't have enough zerkers to crack big garrisons in a city with walls. They'll get construction next turn though, and that'll be game over. |
