Any interest for a new PBEM (EITB)

Settings
------------------

Gamespeed: Quick

------------------

Difficulty: Monarch/Emperor
[subject to Mapmaker's discretion]

-----------------

Start: Ancient
Living World: On
Vassals, Tech Trading: Off
Diplomacy: Full
Restricted Leaders: On
Basium/Hyborem: Human takeover if possible.

------------------

Map preferences
Type: Mapmaker's discretion
World Wrap: not Toroidal
Barbs: On
Orthus: Off
Archeron: Mapmaker's discretion; if On then preplaced
Lairs: On
Huts: Off
All Unique Features: Mapmaker's discretion.
Civs well spaced
Also I've had my fill with "crazy" maps where you plant your capital and discover later you can't use some - important - tiles due
to map shenanigans

------------------

Special Rules
Strength of Will cannot be rushed (Tower of Divination/ Infernal Grimoire)
Keelyn banned
Volanna banned
and Clan if map is mirrored, though I don't like the idea of a mirrored map.
I'd also like if the Civs start with the starting units they usually start with. [So Elves start with two scouts; Dwarves with two warriors. If there should be some additional starting units I'm fine with that.]

Lairs are an important setting to me.
If someone plans out a PBEM, gets the starting screen shot, builds a sandbox, does a player analysis and makes a micro plan just to open a lair on turn 2 and lose: have at it! I don't have the time to spent 5 hours on a game and then risk losing it in the first few turns.
Also if lairs are off barbs won't matter that much.

-----------------

dedlurkers: I welcome you
even if I stick with my plan you will force me to reevaluate!
And I like discussion and activity in my threads.
Also I learned more in when I had a dedlurker than without one. Experience is helpful, a different perspective is invaluable.

I'd like to see the consensus on settings (particularly diplo) before committing to the game.

My preferences:

Gamespeed: Quick
Difficulty: Don't care
Diplomacy: not CTON (limited is fine by me, but I want to be able to befriend and/or taunt my neighbors)
Barbs: On
Acheron/Orthus: Off
Restricted Leaders
No Tech Trading
Huts/Lairs: On
Living World
Compact Enforced: No, but Basium isn't allowed to build a second tower of Divination.

Bans: Keelyn, Stasis, Volanna, and anything else that the mapmaker thinks might be unbalanced in context.

Map: Nothing overly gimmicky. I'd prefer risking a bit of imbalance to playing on a mirrored map, personally.
Unique Features: Mapmakers discretion, not near starting positions.
As usual, I'm in favor of adding something to speed up the early game, and will be in need of zero or more dedlurkers!

Decided settings:

Quick
Emperor
No Orthus
No Acheron
Normal barbs
Restricted Leaders
No Vassals
No Tech Trading (didn't actually get a consensus with this or Vassals, but the game would be silly with either turned on IMO)
No Keelyn, Statis, Volanna

Contested Settings:
Diplomacy - 1 full, 1 not CTON, 1 CTON and 2 CTON or limited. I think we may have to go with limited here. I believe that means we should go with AI diplo? Although if there's another interpretation of limited diplo let's hear it.

Huts/Lairs - 3 Lairs on 2 Lairs off, with 2 huts on and 3 lairs off. That makes Lairs on and huts off. Since lairs are on I'd like to vote that no lairs are located near any of the starting positions, so along with jalepeno that makes 2.

Living World - 2 voted for it, 3 didn't vote. I'll vote for it to, so Living world is on.

Compact Enforced - 2 yes, 2 no and a didn't vote. Care to break the tie jalapeno?

Map - no crazy variants has 4 votes, so that's a majority. 2 prefer a non-mirrored map, which isn't so I think it's best to leave it to the mapmaker's discretion.

Other settings:
Clan/Falamar ban - There are 2 votes to ban Clan if mirrored, and 1 vote for a Falamar ban. Neither of these have a majority though. Perhaps an explanation of why they should be banned would allow the rest of us to see your reasoning?

No rushing Strength of Will - Any particular reason why you want to nerf Tower victory and arcane civs Yell0w?

Things remaining:
Which style of limited diplomacy to use.
Vote on lairs near starting positions.
Compact enforced tiebreaker
Other Settings explanations?

Also we still need HK's and jalepeno's playing time and email. I hope I didn't miss anything.

Sounds good.

I'd prefer more than AI diplo. How about limited in the style of XXV? (Can only send messages on your turn- prevents the diplo from being too time-consuming and/or slowing down the game.)

Sure, that's a fair compromise. No lairs near starting locations (especially epic lairs!)

Seems harmless to add a few extra bans, unless someone really wants to play one of those civs. No objection here.

GMT 23:00 - 3:00 should work for me.

You mean in-game diplo only? I could roll with that.

Jalapeno, did you get my pm?

A word about limited diplo: I think we should view it as 1 email rather then using the in game system, as thats proven to be buggy in the past.

sure ... swap mine CTON to limited ... emails only sent when its your own turn sounds like a interesting way to limit diplo without destroying it.

Got an interesting question before finalizing the voting

See start before picking yes/no? ... I'd like seeing it before picking

Lurkers comment: you should also make sure the start booster (or lack thereof) is determined before picks.
