[SPOILERS] One Jump Ahead

It's really weird how Byzantium used to be a top pick, but now with evolved meta it's not even Top-10.
Not sure I wholly agree with it but I'll trust your (and the other players) judgment.
Only one team to pick before us, we could start thinking who we want.

I was rereading some of the PB2 threads the other day and yeah, it's interesting how much the meta has developed. It seems to be that people care much more about starting techs now than they did then (since worker first is the default play), and Byzantium's starting techs are garbage.

That said, I'm still concerned about facing BXB's 'phracts in PB11, should we get to that point.

With only slowcheetah left to pick before us, here are our options:

Agri+TW:
France
Babylon
Agri+Mining:
none
Fishing+Mining:
Portugal
Rome
Fishing+Agri:
America
Dutch
Native Americans

While waiting I'll run some Fishing sims.

Boom! There's our theme for the game.
It fits nicely with what I've got planned for this game.
I want to improve on what I've done wrong the last two PB's.

The two most important lessons I've learned from PB2 and PB9:
- Economic lead wins wars and the game!
- Information is damn important. We want to know what our neighbors are up to.
Good luck landing an attack against us when we start preparing as soon as you start massing your army.
(In before no-one signs OB with us all game lol)

We aim to be "one jump ahead" of our enemies this time.

In that case I'm writing stuff down. Might make it easier to decide.
The two civs I'm considering are Babylonia and the Dutch.

Babylonia:
+ Worker first
+ We can move in-land if we spot something good
- Bowman not even needed if we have copper
= Garden is okay, but happiness is usually the harder cap

Dutch:
= Workboat to Worker works out, but worse than Babylonia's worker first
- Committal pick, can't move in-land
+ East Indiaman ships are amazing.
- But useless without enough water.
+ Dike is a great UB, though it comes late.
- But useless without enough water.

... In fact Portugal is probably stronger than Dutch. That UB is just beautiful.
Tempting, really tempting..

This was the wrong time for you to take a 2-day break Q :P

Got one with 3 sides?

No need. I'm picking Babylonia.
Gotta fight the temptation and pick the boring but best option smile
Posting it to the organization thread now.
