If that works, it would also be pretty useful when you're updating your sandbox.
If you know what I mean.

Oh - never even saw that. I'll give it a try.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I finally looked at this thread. I ran some test turns for the EitB pitboss by starting the pitboss server, then connecting to it using an IP of 127.0.0.1 (a loopback IP that connects to your own computer). I was able to log in as four different players, but had to exit to main menu and re-connect each time.

You can install multiple copies of Civ4 on your computer, and then run them simultaneously, since the game does not access the CD anymore.

That is good info - thanks for doing some testing and posting it. I have never started a pitboss game so as I see it, I have a few things to iron out (start pitboss game, using mod, run multiple civs) and a few things to knock together (WB proxi start).

I'll have time tomorrow to do this but if anyone is around for and possibly required Q&A sessions on pitboss tomorrow morning ... then great.

The testing isn't going to well. I cannot create a connection to the host (me). I've tried direct IP (127.0.0.1) as well as LAN with no luck. As soon as a civ instance tries to connect, the pitboss window shows (not responding).

Any suggestions.

I was able to get multiple instances of civ running with the 'multiple' switch
I was able to get my LAN pitboss game showing up in the lobby

I've never hosted a pitboss either, and certainly not with a mod.

Maybe switch off your windows firewall and try again?
I have to run.

I just tried it again with the EitB mod (I don't have the mod for this game, so I can't try it).

I double clicked on the Civ4BeyondSword_PitBoss icon in the Beyond the Sword folder, picked "direct IP" and "new scenario", and loaded up my sandbox file from the EitB pitboss. Then I fired up my EitB shortcut, picked Multiplayer, Direct IP, connected to 127.0.0.1, and it worked. I left the password field blank both times.

That is exactly what I did (except using this game's mod). I'll try again with my firewall disabled.

Edit: No luck. I edited my firewall exceptions (deleted all the current rules for Civ4) and will try again.
Edit2: No luck again. It just sits there saying 'connected to host'

Try 'localhost' instead of '127.0.0.1'. Disable firewall and everything if you can't get the exceptions working correctly.
