So eastway just declared war... with 3 units...
If he had gone straight after Castle Black was founded, he may have pulled it off. If we didn't have Open Borders last turn so my Vulture could see the build up in his city he may have surprised me.
However I feel I may be safe.
He has 2 axes and a chariot, I have a Vulture & Spear in Castle Black & overflow enough in Highgarden for another Vulture or Spear. Should be able to whip another Vulture/Spear in CB in time too.
I have offered White Peace, though if he continues I feel secure plus have a free Vulture scouting near his undefended other flank. Shall see what happens...

So eastway got away with it. I know that I would have needed him to be hit by a poorish dice roll on the first combat and when it comes to PBEMs the odds of that happening are even lower...
I have taken peace but one day I will be back and will get some vengeance.

Oh man, that spot for Qarth
Looks like you've lucked out in the "1 tile island" department. Any plans to exploit those?

Yeah I was stunned that the Qarth spot was so easy to get as I only settled it a couple of turns ago, it should be pretty awesome as long as I can hold it...
On the one tile islands, I am not sure how worthwhile they are right now, I think they could cost more than they are worth right now, especially as the food would have to come off the big cities. If I had the Great Lighthouse, I would definitely be considering them. As of right now, Galleys are a bit of an awkward diversion and I think I need to focus on getting Pentos, Tyrosh, Qarth & The Vale up to speed.
Though the more I look at them, the islands between me & eastway and CH could be worth settling as the food is more expendable to be used there.
I'll have a think about it.

Tiny islands like those are nice because they're a bitch to capture w/ amphibious assault penalties & get a trade route bonus. But I don't really understand how trade routes even work, so I have no idea what kind of investment it would take to get them to pay off. 3 commerce coast tiles aren't bad though.

True, as a financial leader, coast does become a bit better.
I really am unsure. I think they could be very useful strategically, but economically they could be a ballache. Though I think we're on Noble difficulty with toroidal wrap so its not going to be that bad...

I have an interesting choice to make next turn...
I have a vulture on that Galley, and can whip a Trireme next turn. Will have enough gold to burn through to Feudalism in 3 turns after next turn too. But he is still above me in total power and AT is seriously mobilising to hit someone. It probably should be someone weak like B4ndit, but maybe if I declare on eastway he may think I'm going in full bore and pile on? Or he thinks I'm going to weaken my front and he hits my lovely southern cities...
The power graph is spoilered for those who want to make a decision with all the facts.
I'm tempted to snipe it - I can get a settler on that galley next turn too so I *should* be able to claim it. As soon as he gets units & culture in there, it will be bloody hard to dislodge for a long time. Plus it would be a bit of vengeance for Castle Black.

eastway completed the Hanging Gardens last turn, which means...
This is now too tempting to pass up as I get to keep the city. So I declared and took it with my Vulture on the Gallery and the Trireme has been whipped out of Highgarden for extra protection.
Some troops are now moving north and research will be going to 100% for Feudalism from next turn.
I also generated a Great Scientist this turn, who shall likely head to the capital for an Academy given the developed cottages there and to assist in getting to Feudalism. Was considering a golden age so I could get there faster too plus allow me to swap into a religion and OR plus Vassalage once Feud is researched but I'm wondering if that is focusing too much on short term gain over long.
I'm still half expecting eastway to attack back at the island, so I may need to consider taking a shot at his galley with mine to delay him until the Trireme rules the roost, or try and get another unit in there. If I can hold it for 5/6 turns to get a Longbow in there, then I reckon it will be mine to keep for a while.
I've taken a risk here, and it was at least a little for vengeance. But this was the tiny window I had both to take the city and keep it without having to resettle it so it was probably worth taking. Just got to hope AT drops in on eastway now or something.
I did offer eastway a white peace, but I am sceptical that he will take it unless CH is actually causing him some worries in that war.

Okay so no peace, but the city remains mine right now. I may lose it next turn because of my mistake the turn before. I should have realised that, once my settler was no longer needed to resettle the island, I could have put another unit on the galley and now I would have 2 units defending the city against a potential 1 galley full of units making a counter attack.
But, I have a Trireme in the water, another Galley on line for next turn which will fill with 2 more units if needed.
However, with AT now declaring war on eastway too, I have given eastway a nice offer to take peace with me. I have offered peace plus 50g.
I am in no position to make a major offensive on eastway, and now I can get Feudalism in 1 more turn (thanks to capital academy) so defensively I should be fine for a while. I want to get 10 turns free peace and keep the island city and let eastway & AT fight it out amongst themselves while I keep up with infrastructure & longbow builds. Eastway can then focus on defending one front and gets a trickle of gold to soothe the loss of a city.
That may be noobish over-caution on my part, but I have achieved my one war target (at the moment) and will now do what I can to get out of it without more bloodshed
