[SPOILERS] TT and Victoria hope to have Sumeria to expand into...

Guess who's back, back again
TT's back, tell a friend
Guess who's back, guess who's back

My civs are no monster, cause nobody wants to play Sullla no more
They want TT, I'm easily rolled over
Well if you want TT, this is what I'll give ya
A little bit of pimp mixed with some large cock-ups
Some misclicks that'll scare your heart quicker
Than a shock when I get shocked at the hospital
By the next player when I'm not whipping defenders
Cos I'm too bust building this must-have wonder (hey!!)
You waited this long, now stop debating
Cause I'm back, I've got a thread with pics and everything
I know that you got a job you lurkers
But my civ playing skills are complicated.
So PBEM 3 won't let me be
Or PB 7, where would you believe
Parkin shut me down so quickly
Cos my cap was empty all down to me
So, come on and watch, have a good laugh
Fuck that, just critique my pimp and meta strategy
And get ready, cause this shit's about to get heavy
I just took Vicky of Sumeria, but I'm shit at economy!

Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody, just ded-lurk me
Cause we need a little, controversy
Cause games feel so error-free, without me
I said this looks like a job for me
So everybody, just ded-lurk me
Cause we need a little, controversy
Cause games feel so error-free without me

Yeah so... that first post happened...

Well I am back again to see if I can improve my skills and be competitive in a game on my own. Yeah I did alright in PB9, but without Bigger there is no way we get close to winning.

I would do some opposition analysis but most of these guys are pretty new to me so I don't think there's that much to go on. Shall see what happens when they choose their combos.

Rationale for my pick of Victoria of Sumeria was that I obviously had to go financial as everyone else did, and while I did toy with a Ragnar of Rome type pick, I thought that early war is too much of a risk to put all my hopes onto, so economy is the way to go.

The way I see it, is trying to expand as quick as I can whilst also looking at a research path that gets towards Priesthood relatively soon so that I can make my land grab more affordable with earlier courthouses than most would get. It also gives me a shot at the Oracle, if it doesn't kill my expansion strategy. That's a secondary target, but one I will keep a close eye on.

I am really going to try and get back to the detail of my early threads as much as I can. I think I am improving and I will try some sandboxing too to see if I can pick my level of play up further. Only in the last months have I been able to truly conquer Monarch so I am some way behind the best players.

That said, I'm going in this to win and its up to the new players (and my mistakes) to stop me. So if anyone wants to jump on so I have people to ask for advice and keep me reporting, then feel free to ded-lurk me.

Expect no more rap though...

So this was my starting position:

A very pretty starting position which I shall not be moving from.

Thus I moved the scout simply to get a look at the lay of the land to my East and was left with this:

Besides more nice resources, there is a riverside lumbermill, which could well be a useful tile early doors.

And so, with my final act, I founded my capital - King's Landing - as I am a major Game of Thrones fan and could not think of something wacky to do. I think my wackiness stores are well depleted after that first post.

Thus the situation at the end of turn was this:

As a first idea, the hill that my scout is currently standing on could be a good second city as it can share the wheat to grow quick, has its own seafood resource 2S and some decent grassland plus forests and the lumber mill. It would need a border pop though for the seafood, so I shall keep scouting before drawing up much of a sandbox plan for quick early expansion. If I am not quick to settle cities then I will really be wasting this trait.

Cringe-rap it most certainly is, thanks for commenting! Was beginning to think noone had noticed it.

End of Turn 2

I'm currently thinking of City 2 being 1NE of the Crab, meaning it can share the wheat and has the crab in its first ring

So another day, another turn goes by. Still just scouting and building the worker so not too much going on.

Here's what the scout uncovered

And as I have a pretty decent grasp of the land in that direction, I have had a couple of early dotmaps to think about the best settling order.

Here's my first go

This one looks at the plains tile I suggested earlier. I makes for a pretty strong second city, and the third city (blue) would be decent too, with all key resources (there's a deer E of the dot) in the first ring. It is quite a distance from the capital though, so the quicker speed that I get settlers could be negated by the travel time to get there. The other city (white) is a nice city in the long run, but would need a border pop to get its major food resource and so would be a poor choice for early expansion.

Also, could Red build a lighthouse later on? If so, that makes it an even better site.

And the second

This one feels better for a quick early expansion, as all three surrounding the capital could work a food tile from their first turn potentially, with the green city making the deer tile useable much earlier than the last dotmap.

Settle order would probably be Grey -> Green -> Pink -> Brown

I say that as the green could use the Wheat and start growing quicker than the Green, which would need some worker labour to grow as fast. And if I am trying to rush to 3/4 cities, I won't have that many workers. However, I could easily swap those if need be, I just think that it might be quicker this way

Either way, it looks like Hunting needs to slide into the research plan pretty soon.

My predicament is that I'm thinking I will need to get to BW and Slavery early for whipping/chopping settlers (possibly my choice of Civ was poor in this regard) but at the same time, Hunting, Mysticism (Border pop at Grey) & Pottery (cottages & granaries) need consideration too.

So once Fishing finishes, it needs to be Mining next (for the gems), then BW with Hunting & Pottery following.

If anyone wants to help, please do. You all should know by now that I need it!

Seems like I'm on my own.

Here's the world as I know it right now:

And here is a closer view so you can see the worker on the wheat

Bringing my scout closer to home rather than making contact with southern neighbour because I don't want to miss good early city sites in other directions due to poor scouting

Remember, you can always test whether NobleHelium is reading by asking a mechanics question. Unless it is too obvious and he is too annoyed to answer it. wink

So we have copper under all the capitals... that makes things interesting. Guess early rushes are well off the table which makes me glad I decided against a Ragnar pick.

Eastway & B4ndit have both found me with their scouts but that's as far as interesting stuff goes right now.

Finally getting some eastward scouting done so should soon be able to decide where my first settler will go, though there hasn't been too much found yet to change from my second dotmap.

At size 2 I have decided to start on that first settler now while I set my worker to chop a forest. I plan to swap back to the WB for the chop (which should hopefully complete it) before going back to finishing the settler working two big food tiles.
