I've visited there for two weeks once. it definitely is packed full of enough places and history for a story to feed from.
I mean, I'm sure there's nothing in the smithsonian museums that a super villain would want to steal, and there's no behind the scenes dirty wars fought between those of differing political views, and there's certainly no way that any of the monuments thereabouts has any secret supernatural influence.
I've been to DC several times for work and leisure, but wouldn't say I'm very familiar with it. Another advantage it has besides those Brick listed is a good mass transit system, unlike, say, Los Angeles, where you pretty much have to drive to get anywhere. LA, on the other hand, is the default setting for detective noir stories.
I've never been to Nashville, but would be fine with any location that would let the DM add more local flavor. Another suggestion: Chicago. Good mass transit, colorful history.
I've been to all the touristy places in DC. Although my concept guy was going to carry a gun...bit hard to do there.

Well, you can still carry a gun, just don't ever let the police see it or anyone else for that matter. Though we can always strike that law down in intensity in our world if need be.
Chicago is great, which is why that's where the actual Dresden Files series books take place. It's probably be too easy for me to fall into repeating some of the major themes there since I've read 15 books now that play on them, so I'd really rather not do Chicago.
Actually, another side note: Do people have any sort of particular power level in mind? I had been thinking starting down at a low power level, but we could have it up at a medium/medium-high level if you wanted to have the action to be more large-scale. We could maybe even make using the Dresden-specific ruleset work for that, as long as people don't mind wizards being pretty high-powered even compared to the rest.
Dave, would you be fine with using the Dresden Files RPG system? You said you haven't read the books, so all the backstory in the manual would be new material for you, but it might not be too bad to get up to speed on things.
My biggest worry with using DC is that it would be awfully easy to fall into politics. I mean, clearly the only reason the Republicrats support those policies is eeevil influence . I don't want to have that debate here.
On the front of DaveV not knowing the setting - that's easy, isn't it? His character is ignorant of the supernatural, recently had a spooky experience that he survived with the party's help, and is now learning. I'm pretty sure he can have a char who's powered enough to participate on even footing without magic help, like Murphy.

True, I wouldn't really want to make things a political focused game, that doesn't sound fun. So either a different city or a pledge of some sort to not dabble in politics in a game there.
Some other ideas I was looking at: Atlanta- nice sizable city, but I didn't see a whole lot of fascinating unique things that grabbed me about it. Boston- large and has a lot of history. I've never been there or anywhere close though, so all of my reference for building things up would be from online.
Heck, DaveV and others unfamiliar with Dresden Files can even be supernaturally powered...many are the poor saps with power but without a clue in-universe.

Power level: I don't want to start so powerful that we don't have room to grow. That said, I do want to be a wizard. I've been trying to convince myself to try something less vanilla, but wizard's the one that makes me go COOOL! So, I'd prefer something at least strong enough to let me be a wizard.
City: I've touristed in DC. So I wouldn't claim I know the place, but I wouldn't mind setting our game there. As long as we stay far away from politics. Wouldn't mind Nashville, either, but I don't know anything more about it than that it's got some country music. For the most part I've lived in suburbia and towns so just about any city is going to be a bit strange to me. Cities I know better: Houston, Boise, Allentown, Fort Collins, Newark (DE); I'll be surprised if any of these are familiar to the rest of you, but I wanted to mention them just in case.
