We could use Brick's admin powers to muddy the waters even more! Have him post for "Lord Parkin" in the lurker thread a bit, perfectly preserving "ZealandNAPer"'s anonymity.
This plan is flawless, you can even feed Brick thoughts to be posted in the lurker thread in your normal voice.

Totally need to have some special functionality that makes all posts in a subforum appear to all come from the same username.

Kind of like how my announcement about the Return of Pitboss plastered all over the forum appears to have been posted by you?

Might become a bit obvious when every post someone makes in the lurker thread is completely unrelated to the current topic of discussion. And when they never quote or reply to anyone. :P

Ha. It wasn't intentional, I just reused the last forum announcement that had been set, which happened to have been set by you. When I updated the message and link it didn't change who had originally posted that announcement. Next time it'd be better to delete the existing announcement (even if it was expired and not visible) and create a new one so I'm not effectively posting under someone else's name. It was kind of a funny coincidence given the current conversation here, though.

That's actually a very interesting idea. If everyone's username was changed within a forum (but avatars were different), that would solve a lot of problems. Doesn't appear to be possible with MyBB on a quick Google search though.
However, this sparked another idea in my head - what if all players had the same game login name? Civ allows you to use an identical name for every single player if you want. If every player has the same login name, and spoiler thread titles are kept meaningless, there's no way for players to tell which person - or even which pseudonym - is controlling which civ. You wouldn't even require the pseudonyms... though I think that would still be fun for the lurkers, as well as providing an extra level of security against accidental thread clicks.
Seriously, this seems like a great idea. If every player logs in with the same name, it would be enormously difficult to tell who is who even with timestamp data available on the tracker. I doubt anyone would be able to get such information at a glance, which is the main thing we'd want to protect against. Yet the important information - which civilizations have finished their turn - would still be easily visible.
Also, if someone is going to be absent then there's far less danger of an information leak. Even if the sub doesn't post forum updates under the pseudonym's name, as long as the turns are played using the identical login no important spoiler information is passed to the players. Yes they might now guess that X pseudonym corresponds to Y player, but there'd still be no way to link that player/pseudonym pair to a civ. If the sub posts an update or two with the pseudonym's account, even the player-pseudonym pairing would remain unknown to the rest of the players.
Thoughts?

Even if a secret identity PB doesn't go through, I would like to see at least some kind... smack talk thread? IDK, I've obviously only been here for a couple months so I'm sure ya'll have tried this before I guess, but I really enjoy posting taunts and crap and talking about the game with other players, with my experience being that we do this on badgame. I mean, I kinda understand that this creates a game in itself (someone's stack gets wiped, but you learn about it on this turn, as opposed to two turns later when you check the graphs) and other stuff but, idk. As long as people are civil and don't spoil Too much... lol this definitely a failed proposal

if there's ever an anonymous pitboss game, it needs to be coded in the forum software so that all players show up as "ANONYMOUS" in the pitboss's forum, have a custom tracker that does not show names, and have a banter thread so that ANONYMOUS can trash talk ANONYMOUS who is actually pretending to be ANONYMOUS in order to bait ANONYMOUS into war.
