A split of the party into half should have an impact on its image and thus the voters.

It is politically impressive that the party was able to recover from the split and prevent those who split from taking any votes away from the Finns, but there was no massive up-swelling of support for them for this election.
The party that split took ~30k votes, so we can estimate the gain to be ~45k, and even more if we take into account the damage to image caused by the split.

What is going to happen to western liberal democracy as the centres do not hold, and sides become increasingly polarised? Stay tuned to find out.

Quote:France has seen a spate of attacks against Catholic churches since the start of the year, vandalism that has included arson and desecration.
Vandals have smashed statues, knocked down tabernacles, scattered or destroyed the Eucharist and torn down crosses, sparking fears of a rise in anti-Catholic sentiment in the country.
Last Sunday, the historic Church of St. Sulpice in Paris was set on fire just after midday mass on Sunday,

As we celebrate Bernie Sanders' official entry into the millionaire champagne socialists club, let's remember what could have been:
Quote:Bernie Sanders: Open borders? No, that's a Koch brothers proposal.
Ezra Klein: Really?
Bernie Sanders: Of course. That's a right-wing proposal, which says essentially there is no United States. ...
Ezra Klein: But it would make ...
Bernie Sanders: Excuse me ...
Ezra Klein: It would make a lot of global poor richer, wouldn't it?
Bernie Sanders: It would make everybody in America poorer —you're doing away with the concept of a nation state, and I don't think there's any country in the world that believes in that. If you believe in a nation state or in a country called the United States or UK or Denmark or any other country, you have an obligation in my view to do everything we can to help poor people.

Bernie, you could have been the popular left-wing nationalist, actually standing up for the American blue-collar worker. Corbyn is something, you're just a never-even-was.

I call Maduro winning. This was possible because he knew the only way to lose was a military coup and he blocked it by sending Generals' families to Cuba. He was also helped by a dumb ruling by a leftist Supreme Court in another country that annulled the amnesty of a right-wing Junta.

Quote: Scott Morrison, Australia's conservative prime minister, pulled off a shock defeat in Australia's national election Saturday, defying scores of polls that predicted a victory
"I have always believed in miracles," Mr. Morrison said at his victory party. "Tonight is about every single Australian who depends on their government to put them first. And that is exactly what we are going to do."

With the UK likely having spied on Trump, who wants to take over May and deal with that mess?

I am tempted to put a tenner on Boris winning the Tory leadership and then him not being immediately asked to be PM.
Which would likely lead to Corbyn having to deal with it.

Why would they deny him?
In other news,
Quote:India’s Modi wins resounding election victory with potent appeal to nationalism
NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party won a landslide victory in the world’s largest election as voters endorsed his vision of a muscular, assertive and fundamentally Hindu India.
The result represents a stunning vote of confidence in Modi, a charismatic and polarizing politician who is part of a crop of right- leaning populist leaders around the globe.

Basically the process is TM goes to the queen to resign and advise on "who can command a majority of the house of commons". Boris can't unless he has the entire Tory party and the DUP with him, but he has said we are leaving in October Deal or No Deal.
If only 7 Tories refuse to support him then he would not command a majority, and significantly more than that number have ruled out allowing No Deal. So it is plausible that Corbyn promises a further referendum as a way out and uses that as the lever to show he can command a majority, even if only temporarily, even if it pits No Deal against Remain with no offer of TMs deal. And then after a referendum, which would likely require a short further extension, a GE because Corbyn would only need to lose a vote of confidence and not put up another, and the Tory party gets obliterated.

When she posted those pictures a couple years ago people surmised that it might be illegal for her to post them. The law on what constitutes promoting terrorism is rather large, and includes sharing photographs used in terrorist propaganda. Which she did. There's also the possibility for the violent pictures to be viewed by children, which is undeniable and also illegal.
The law treats this just like it would treat a pornographic image. And I assume I'd get arrested if I went around (for example) Times Square holding pornographic pictures.
We'll see if she gets a fine in the end.
