On the game and our restart - the map change that gives us a plains hill speeds things up nicely so instead of a t38 settler we could get one out eot31. That's still slow as hell, but PRO/CHA shines glows dully much later...

Serafina Pekkala is a queen, so Queen Serafinia?
Asriel is Lyra's uncle, so Uncle Asriel?
The subtle knife lets Will Vanish? (Or there are a couple of characters with Van in their names.)
And there are Zeppelins everywhere!

I can agree with all those changes, but as we already have Serafine Pekkala up there.. What do you propose to replace the S with?

Im seeing alot of plains. Possibly a river to the north by that hill?

Or Stelmaria (Asriel's Daemon) or Silvertongue...

Silvertongue sounds good

Look at all those LOVELY plains tiles. Maybe there is a triple fish site to our east?

Also, 48hrs... and the following players did not finished their turn:
  • Superpower (id=1)
  • DerGraf (id=3)
  • Konsul (id=14)
  • Kendo-Khan (id=17)

Thats..... really sad. I mean, unless they were in the hospital or something like that, 48hrs is kinda a banghead  if you cant make the timer imo. Maybe we start near a couple of those people for easy eating?

Two of the mentioned IDs (3 & 17) are being played by a team. It is not uncommon that pairings that have never played together before (as is the case with both of these) take some time to make even simple arrangements like "do you login or do I do?".

You also asked earlier if I could give feedback on the Civforum players.

The honest answer would be "on most of them I could indeed, whereas others are quite new to us as well".

Forgive me for saying so, but I believe most of the enjoyment one gets out of a game such as this is NOT knowing how a player might act in any given situation. Even a "in the past, this guy always acted like this" is no guarantee that he will not have learned from past mistakes...

I just recently finished reading the last of the stories that were written during PB73, the predecessor to this game. Out of the top four finishers in that game, three wrote a story. All three were more than 200 pages (of 20 posts each) long. Reading them was interesting particularly with regard to how these successful players "read" their / their neighbour's situation(s) and decide their tactical / strategical options based on how they judge what others might or might not do.

So what I can tell you is that there is some serious competition out there.

But even the ones who have not been known to write Stories about their SP/MP exploits might differ greatly in their playing skill. One guy just recently started sharing with us by playing PB and writing stories after (so he said) silently lurking for many years and I'd instantly place him among the ten best players we have on Civforum.de. While others seem to have considerably less skill. The good thing is that most of the latter write stories, which in turn will ensure that they will get advice from readers (at least four of our top ten players are not playing themselves and one of these is already active in this regard). The extra archer unit will make warrior rushes extremely unlikely, so that we will at least not have a situation where a good player has two really good city spots early in the game.

You might get lucky with your neighbours, we shall know soon enough (in the last game, pretty much everybody had contact to at least one neighbour by turn 10 or so).

Superdeath, I've been reading there just a little. I think without spoilers I can tell you that Kaffesatzleser won the last game by culture with an empire stretching from Turkey to SE Asia, and Jesper and Sauron are regarded as scary by the folks there. Judging from your 45 thread I think you'd enjoy the Dutch player's thread "I'm going to build a dike and Belgium's gonna pay for it"

Where on the globe do You think You ended up? Texas? Bulgaria?

Thanks for the info Papa Bear and Miguelito. Speaking for myself: while meeting exciting unpredictable new players can be entertaining I get more fun from trying to figure out what the opponent is likely to be up to and how I can take advantage. I imagine that once we find out who the neighbours are I'll go look for old threads of theirs to get an idea of their style.

As for where we are on the globe: I logged in to do a bit of camera flying and came up with a map of the surrounding area that looks something like this:

So it's pretty obvious that we're in Argentina. Hopefully the nasty land-ice tiles that blocked off the peninsula on the previous map will have gone, but the bare ground down there doesn't look good. To the west I think there are only 1 or 2 land tiles to de-fog before we hit the pacific. At least we have easy-to-defend backlines.
