Uncommonly Good: A Story of Elves

If the warrior survives, promote (duh) and heal him up on the tile, then pop it again. A warrior sitting out there in the middle of nowhere is likely to get eaten, and we don't want that lair near us.

I believe the Rusted promotion decreases strength by 10-20%, in addition to also removing any metal buffs (which we didn't have).

The turn made its way around. In case anyone hasn't noticed before, I write these reports as I play (I think its the only way you really stay detailed.) So as of writing this paragraph, I still have no earthly idea what happened. But we're about to find out. Everyone cross your fingers and light a fat one or eat a cookie or drop a flying elbow on someone...

First things first, we now know the secrets of Mysticism. Research tentatively set to Education, though if its a Mistform, we'll go Hunting next.

And I can't wait and build suspense any longer, I scroll the camera north of The Chronic and...

Still waiting?

Nervous yet?

Mardoc, why'd you let me do this?

\o/ VICTORY \o/

The Brawler viciously takes down Quiis Taat by pinfall, and lives to see another day. Now, before we get *too* excited, it is possible that the mistforms might have wandered off towards the capital and still live. But given the Brawler would have been easy prey, its extremely unlikely that they would not have killed him. Man, that is a relief. I was feeling extraordinarily stupid for popping that dungeon. That said, I'm going to heal the brawler up on the dungeon and try popping it again, I think. wink I promoted him C1, by the by.

With that, the rest of the turn. Us discovering Mysticism was the only score increase of the turn. After that, I go ahead and enact the rest of the plan. Revolt to God King and Pacifism, change to Elder Council from a Settler. If we get another baddie after popping the barrow, well, this will turn out to be stupid. Micro for growth in 6 (don't want to grow) and Elder Council due in 4, which I believe was the original plan. Education takes 17T with this set-up.

Here's a shot at what Leaping Lanny has uncovered in the south. Hint: Not much.

I appreciate everyone's support during our second great Elven crisis. I think the next pop really owes us a Great Sage. rolleye

Now I can get back to my entertainment post that I promised you guys. I'll try and get that up tomorrow. smile
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Mardoc Wrote:Of course, the next question is clear - suppose there really was no Mistform there, and we beat the spectre. Do we gamble again? lolbanglol

Absolutely not! yikes

I didn't want to mention this earlier (throwing salt in the wound and all that) but a barrow by itself poses no threat whatsoever. It occasionally spawns Skeletons: weak Strength 3, Movement 1 creatures that can't pillage. The worst they can ever do is force our workers to switch to building improvements on neighbouring tiles (or more likely, require us to defend our workers with spare warriors.) Most of the time they simply attack fortified warriors and die. I think the takeaway from this little incident is that we should only pop lairs near our borders when we have a stack ready to clean up the mess afterwards. (Unless we happen to be losing anyway, in which case we might need risky plays to pull ahead.)

Edit: I see we've survived! Hurray! But my point still stands! Don't do it! :nono1:
Edit2: That was some fine math, Mardoc! Good call.

Yeah, I'm not taking responsibility for any further pops rolleye. Can't you at least wait until, say, Hunting comes in, so we can fly a recon mission and KNOW if we have Mistforms or not?

Okay, we could pop the lair later I guess. There's only four non-peak tiles around it, surrounding it is quite feasible. And yeah, skeletons are not a threat.

Hmm. I can just see the war declaration now:

War! Wrote:Nicolae Carpathia of the Sheaim:
It is with great sadness that I announce the necessity of the Ljosalfar crusade to cleanse the world from your madness. Your crimes include:
  • The unholy perversion of nature that is known as the Pyre Zombie
  • Your desire to wreck the world
  • Your occupation of prime real estate
  • Your decision, on T30, to hold the save for 12 hours, and then to pass on the wrong one, causing undue fear in the hearts of the Ljosalfar waiting to see if they spawned a Mistform
  • You use Death mana
It should be clear that the peace-loving, smoke-loving hippies of the Ljosalfar civilization nonetheless have no choice but to end you.

Hey, can you check the combat log and post the odds on that fight?

Sadly, no combat log in FFH. Pretty sure it was 4.1 v 3.0 however.

BRAWLER WINS!! (there’s apparently not even a Youtube video which really fits this very rare occasion)

I’m going to make the brave assumption that drama is all over with, since Mardoc’s shown that is seemingly mathematically likely bow. In which case… jive:dancing5:jive

The Ljosalfar thread, a.k.a Public Service Panicking! We’re revealing code to the world, calculating likely rush timings, demonstrating how to execute early game extortion, and all at the simple cost of Gaspar’s mental health. lol

Azoth does have something of a point regarding our next action with the barrow. We’re top in score, last time we looked we were researching the fastest, and our short term goal is to settle one of the “Big 3” unique features. We’re probably not in a position where we need to take unnecessary risks. However, that sage would be nice. wink

If we’re waiting for later, I’m not sure whether it’s best to stay put to block any spawns, just leave it for the time being, or put a warrior (or two) on the adjacent hills to farm experience when the barrow does drop its second unit. The problem with the latter options is the 75% defence bonus on the fortified forest-hill skeleton when we do come to clear it. On the other hand, we’d definitely get the next adventurer home if we pop it in a couple of turns. wink

Is Leaping Lanny heading south, or circling back to defog the route to the Remnants?
