I've poked KingOfPain again in the Diablo 3 forum, in a thread where he's posting daily. I've also messaged him in private, which he has not responded to. I hope that this will get the message across. I would hate to think that the site owner is deliberately ignoring these problems.

Somehow I am not getting my PMs.

Things are getting worked on, tho not at the speed everyone and I like. You (everyone) don't need to be bothered with the reasons as to why, I am willing to take the full blame. Just don't get too insulting bow

I had another snarky reply typed up, but it's probably better to just calmly remind people that KoP clearly has been made aware of the various issues. Angry/insulting posts 'reminding' him probably aren't doing a lot of practical good.

Agree that being insulting is over the line, but I do think it's important to hear some sort of update from KoP. Before he finally responded (after things got mean), his last post in here was:

KingOfPain Wrote:I am having issue gaining access to the servers myself. The last server move screwed all my accesses to this and my other sites. Even got son (NiteTales) willing to work on the problems, on top of T Hawk and Doc D. I am very grateful for the help, and patience from the members. Things might go at a RB pace, but I promise things will get fixed before RB blows up smile

In May. Better communication on the state of things would really be appreciated.

Bunch of spambot posts need cleaning up.

At a certain points as adults we need to cast aside our slavish respect for authority and demand that steps be taken to ensure the forums are safe for ourselves and others. It is entirely possible that the year+ delay in removing the Google hack from this site has already caused thousands of dollars in damage to people whose only offense was to try to read some Civ / FFH / whatever reports. For the uninitiated, when attempting to reach RB via Google search, some users are redirected to a site which hosts aggressive malware. When internet negligence can (and likely has) cause real life harm, it's okay to get a little upset.

I do not want to insult you, KoP. Despite my sarcastic response to Sunrise above, I do not see what good throwing personal attacks around would do. But some of the issues facing RB are very serious, and not just in a "will my browsing pleasure be slightly disrupted by outdated software" way. People have posted fixes for the Google hack in this very subforum. Multiple times. When will you be able to implement them, or appoint someone to be in a position to do so?

Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.
